Job Description

Linux AdministratorHybrid workingOur client, a well established organisation in Liverpool have an exciting opportunity for a Linux adminstrator to join on a permanent basis. The main part of the role is administering the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers. This includes building serversto required specifications, configuring software applications, and applying updates for both operating system and applications. Monitoring of the estate, using automated tools, is also required.Building virtual machines and configuring network interfaces for the hypervisors as well as monitoring performance and applying software updates.This role is to also administer the backup systems on a daily basis. Monitoring the performance of the overnight backup jobs, ensuring that the backup logs are accurately maintained and having the backup tapes ready for offsite collection. Backup clientsare to be installed on Windows and Linux servers where required plus any additional plugins that are required for hypervisors or databases.To deal with second line support calls with respect to backups/restores and with respect to the Linux infrastructure, supporting the other team members in maintaining this infrastructure. Key Accountabilities:

  • Administration of RHEL
  • Ensuring Linux and Windows servers and systems are fully backed up.
  • Monitoring backup systems.
  • Adjusting backup policies and procedures taking into account changing business strategies including business continuity.
  • Provisioning virtual servers using VMware.
  • Assisting all members of team.
  • Learning new tasks.
  • Taking responsibility.
  • Willingness to acquire and improve skills.
  • Documenting procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Training:
  • Knowledge of VMware, Linux and backup solutions.
  • Experience of working within an IT service delivery.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues and contribute/help in a constructive way.
  • Ability to create and maintain I.T. related documentation.
  • Strong self-discipline and dedication to self-improvement.
  • ITIL aware.
