Job Description

On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit a Licensed Animal Technician to join a team to undertake procedural work and a high level of welfare of animals to provide a professional technical service for all users. You will be working in an environmentwhere you will be encouraged to develop your full potential, including opportunities for further training and personal development.Basic Requirements:

  • Hold a Home Office Personal Licence
  • Qualification in a relevant subject and significant experience in the field of in vivo research
  • Experience of undertaking experimental procedures utilising a range of techniques such as dosing and blood sampling
  • Experience of working with breeding colonies of animals including genetically altered ones
  • Ability to work independently to identify and address operational issues
  • Experience of working within an aquarium environment is desirable
  • Flexible approach to work
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring a specialist and professional technical service that is responsive to all aspects of in vivo research by keeping up to date with new procedures via continuing professional development
  • Undertaking technical procedures that are regulated under ASPA 1986, ensuring strict adherence to all codes of practice, standard operational procedures, HSE regulations, COSHH forms and safety procedures that are in place. This will include working regularlyat CL2 level and at CL3 level
  • Assisting in surgical operations and anaesthesia as and when required
  • Maintaining the highest level of husbandry to provide an environment that sustains the specified pathogen free (SPF) microbiological status of the animals within their care
  • Taking responsibility for specific research programmes using animals under direction of the Deputy Manager or BSU Manager
  • Undertaking other reasonable duties as directed by management and participating in the overtime rota to ensure all welfare needs of the animals are met.
