Job Description

On behalf of our client, a leading centre for health and life science research, we are looking to recruit an Hygiene Technician to join their team to provide a high level of care and hygiene to laboratory animals used in medical research. The successfulcandidate will provide a professional service for the maintenance and the wellbeing of various species. You will be responsible for maintaining selected areas and help with autoclaving of equipment, stock control and suppliesBasic Requirements:

  • 3 GCSE passes or equivalent including General literacy and numeracy
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Practical experience working within a research environment is desirable
  • Experience of health and safety standards and implementation is advantageous
  • Comfortable working alone or within a larger team depending on the task
  • Ability to organise/prioritise cagewash and store areas while managing busy workloads
  • Follow and maintain meticulous level of sterilisation protocols
  • Excellent communicational skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance, checking, validation runs and minor servicing of equipment
  • Cleaning and sterilisation of all cages, substrate, bedding materials, environmental enrichments, food, water sources, waste matter, consumables, and the cleaning and maintenance of all rooms
  • Sterilisation of all goods using a large industrial machinery including high pressure vessels.
  • Responsible for the disposal of waste material from animal cages, cleaning and restocking of cages with appropriate environmental consumables and sterilisation of prepped cages
  • Cleaning and sterilisation of areas to maintain the microbiological barrier including a full laundry service.
  • Strict adherence to working regimes must be employed at all times to maintain the barrier.
  • Receipt of animal deliveries and assisting in their secure and careful distribution to the appropriate areas.
