Job Description

Job Title: 1:1 Learning Support AssistantLocation: L18, South LiverpoolMain Purpose: As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant at our South Liverpool Primary School, your primary responsibility is to provide dedicated learning and care support for an individual pupil with SEND. Working collaboratively with the teacherand SENDCO, you will play a crucial role in implementing strategies outlined in the pupils Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) to achieve positive outcomes.Duties and Responsibilities:Supporting the Pupil:

  • Build a positive and nurturing relationship with the pupil, fostering high self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
  • Uphold high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in alignment with the schools behaviour policy and guidelines on physical intervention.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of individualised education, support, and care plans.
  • Ensure the fulfilment of the childs personal and intimate care requirements.
  • Support the pupils social, emotional, and mental health needs, escalating concerns when necessary.
Teaching and Learning:
  • Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning, adopting relevant strategies to support the teacher and enhance the pupils achievement.
  • Contribute to planning differentiated learning activities, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum, fostering the pupils full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Encourage participation in learning and extracurricular activities to promote, support, and facilitate inclusion.
  • Consistently apply effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Organise and manage teaching space and resources to maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
  • Utilise ICT skills to advance the pupils learning.
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on the pupils progress, attainment, and barriers to learning through observations.
  • Monitor, record, and report on progress and attainment where appropriate.
  • Read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available.
Working with Staff, Parents/Carers, and Relevant Professionals:
  • Share knowledge and understanding of the pupil with other school staff and education, health, and social care professionals for informed decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, pupils, and parents and carers.
  • Keep other professionals accurately informed about performance, progress, and any areas of concern.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.
Professional Development:
  • Reflect on personal practice, liaise with school leaders, and identify relevant professional development opportunities to keep knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date.
  • Build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and experience needed for the role, with support from the school.
  • Participate in the schools appraisal procedures.
Other Areas of Responsibility:Safeguarding:
  • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and adhere to our safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school.
