Job Description

  • We are urgently seeking an experienced and skilled Trading Standards Officer to undertake the inspection of trading premises, vehicles, farms, the examination, testing and sampling of equipment, goods, livestock, services, facilities and selling claims for the purpose of ensuring compliance with legislation enforced for one of our local government clients based in Glenfield.The Trading Standards Officer will receive, analyse and record complaints and enquiries from the public and trade and industry. They will respond immediately where this is possible by the provision of information, guidance and advice and to refer to the designated officer those requiring further action as required.They will investigate alleged offences and unfair trading practices and prepare reports on those investigations, to obtain statements from witnesses and others, when required to prepare letters to traders, draft documents for court purposes and when necessary to give evidence in court.Duties will include undertaking animal health standards inspection visits and other interventions, the investigation of complaints, providing advice to businesses and taking samples.Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:
  • Candidates need to be qualified to enforce animal health standards legislation and possess one of baseline qualifications for animal health standards.
  • Demonstrable experience of Trading Standards investigations and enforcement procedures within local government
  • Demonstrable experience of reporting on TS violations and advising enforcement teams
  • Experience of onsite investigations and producing violation notifications
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrated with third parties and other enforcement agencies
