Humanities students have access to thefull range of audio-visual and IT facilities, including audio, video and web-based learning, and the option to study a language alongside their degree.RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen to support students and staff at De MontfortUniversity within the Art and Design Textile Dye workshop.The nature and extent of support you will provide is broad and varied and candidates will need to have good knowledge of textile dying techniques including acid and direct dyeing processes. You will also have experience with general workshop machinery andhave knowledge of health and safety within a workshop environment.As a Technical Instructor (Dye Workshop) you will provide a full technical support service to students and staff, including training, practical assistance and advice on the use of equipment and appropriate process and techniques.You will be responsible for the day-to-day organisation and management of the workshop including ensuring compliance with DMU Health & Safety Policy as it applies to their work area and activities.All staff are also expected to understand the need to put students first and to be proactive in improving the support that students receive.The role is 37 hours per week on a fixed term contract for 12 months covering a maternity leave or until the postholder returns.Ideal CandidateYou will have a good standard of general education with a qualification in a textile related subject. You will have experience of working within a textile dye making environment and have expertise in various types of fabric substrates and able to identifythem alongside good colour matching and mixing skills. Have knowledge of both contemporary and traditional practice in Art & Design.This role will require you to be flexible and organised, whilst continually maintaining and overseeing the safe use of machinery and processes within your workshopThe role is subject to a DBS check, the level of DBS check will be determined at offer stage.
