UHL is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population. We serve the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and specialist services over a much wider area. Applications are invited for enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultants in Anaesthesia to join our expanding team at the Leicester General Hospital. This is a full time post for 6 months.The successful applicant will be joining University Hospital’s Leicester (UHL) at a time of major rebuild. The Government has announced that Leicester’s Hospitals will be getting £450m of capital investment over the next 5 years to complete our investment and reconfiguration plans. The £450m programme includes two ‘super’ intensive care units with 100 beds in total, almost double the current number with modernised of wards, operating theatres and imaging facilities.The scope of surgical practice at the hospitals offers exciting and varied clinical opportunities for Consultant Anaesthetists and there is continued support for non-clinical professional activities both inside and outside the trust.Leicester General Hospital is one of three hospitals in the Trust, and is the site of elective orthopaedics and hand surgery, general surgery, renal transplant, urology & hepatobiliary services. There will be an exciting opportunity to be involved in the development of ambulatory orthopaedic patient pathways over the next 12 months. The successful candidate will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on-call rota, and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective and emergency surgery.The work pattern offered is designed to give the appointee the best opportunity to develop their clinical and non-clinical interests whilst most effectively supporting the department. All previous holders of this post have progressed to substantive positions, having developed expertise and leadership skills in their field of interest.The successful candidates will support the current establishment of NHS and academic staff contributing to the on-call rota, and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective, emergency and trauma surgery.UHL is fully committed to continuing medical education for consultants. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to departmental quality improvement activity and the clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees in anaesthesia.
