Job Description

Reed Talent Solutions are currently working with Leicester City Council to recruit a Homeless Prevention Officer on an initial three-month contract. The post holder will be tasked with helping to prevent and relieve homelessness in the cityby assisting customers to either retain their present accommodation or by the provision of an alternative housing resolution and ensuring access to suitable housing for those in need in line with the Homelessness Strategy and relevant statutory legislation.Role Information

  • Hybrid working model
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday
  • £17.53 per hour
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide an effective, professional and customer-friendly service on behalf of the council including offering a full range of advice on housing options and a comprehensive homelessness prevention service
  • Manage a large, varied and complex caseload. Including handling the services more complex cases for example handling illegal eviction cases in the private sector, handling higher-profile / sensitive cases and managing referrals from other local authorities
  • Undertake assessment and investigation of homelessness approaches and applications in line with the councils statutory duties under relevant statutory legislation, guidelines and case law
  • Develop, updates and reviews personalised housing plans with customers, identifying actions that lead to customers retaining their current accommodation or securing new suitable accommodation
  • Produce written correspondence including legal notification letters for statutory homeless applications and responses to councillor, MP enquiries and others
  • Maintain accurate written and computer records, reports and other monitoring information as required and keep other records necessary to provide an adequate management information database
Essential Criteria
  • Experience of working with homeless clients
  • Experience of carrying out interviews, investigations, negotiations
  • Experience of managing a caseload
  • Knowledge of all homelessness legislation, housing legislation, welfare benefit expertise and social care knowledge
  • Knowledge of the 1996 Housing Act, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, the Childrens Act and the Care Act
  • Knowledge in relation to 1-2 homelessness / homelessness prevention areas e.g. domestic violence, mental health, care leavers, 16- and 17-year olds, offenders, private-rented sector, IT and data systems
  • Strong awareness of current issues in the field of housing / homelessness
  • Ability to interpret legislation and apply it to own caseload
