Job Description

The National Youth Agency is excited to be recruiting for a Head of Policy and Partnerships professional.Head of Policy and Partnerships - National Youth AgencyLocation: Home based/remote workingSalary: from £48,000 to £50,000 per annumHours: Full Time, 37 hoursContract: PermanentWhat we doAll young people deserve a productive, fulfilling future. Society needs the spark and energy of young people to make it tick, yet somehow thousands of young people feel blocked by the complex, sometimes disheartening challenges the modern world throws atthem.Youth work is the best methodology to unlock young peoples potential by providing high quality support and opportunities. Skilled youth workers build relationships that support young people to explore their personal, social, and educational development.Youth work enables young people to develop their voice, influence, and place within society.As the national body for youth work, NYA has a dual function. We are the professional, statutory, and regulatory body (PSRB) responsible for qualifications, quality standards and safeguarding for youth work and services in England. In line with our charitymission and aims, we also champion youth work through research, advocacy, campaigns, and programmes.About the RoleThe Head of Policy and Partnerships will work closely with the Director of Policy and Communications, the policy team, wider colleagues, and external stakeholders to influence policy and ensure that the voice of the NYA and the youth sector is driving policyand funding decisions. This is a pivotal role to help deliver National Youth Agencys mission in a long term, sustainable way to improve the lives of this and future generations.The role leads a new and expanded team whose role is to influence national and local policy to champion great youth work and its value and importance for young people across England. It requires strong relationship-building, project management, report writingand influencing skills, as well as a proven background of problem-solving and working within a complex multi-stakeholder environment.Were looking for an energetic leader and role model, able to organise, inspire and motivate people to achieve great outcomes; both within your own team, across the organisation and with external stakeholders. Youll be someone who combines political nouswith a passion to achieve the best for young people.You will:

  • Work with the Director of Policy and Communications, the wider SLT, and key internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver a cutting-edge policy and public affairs strategy to align with our new 5-year strategy and to raise the profile of youthwork among key decision makers
  • Lead the development of stakeholder maps to identify who we need to work with or influence to achieve our mission and to amplify the voice of sector
  • Develop stakeholder engagement plans based on policy priorities
  • Identify and seize opportunities for influencing youth policy and funding at a national, local and regional level to make the youth sector stronger
  • Lead the development of relevant and credible policy positions that align with our strategy and further our mission
  • Establish, promote and maintain strong relationships across all the political parties and Whitehall
  • Collaborate with key external stakeholders, through cross-sector partnerships, working groups and other forums, to collectively influence public policy
  • Work closely with colleagues from across the organisation to draw on their youth sector expertise and knowledge to inform policy thinking and activity.
  • Oversee a wide range of high-quality written outputs including research reports, policy briefings, blogs, consultation responses and government facing communications
  • Lead and deliver policy events and roundtables
  • Work with the communications team to maintain and grow our external profile during relevant policy debates, hone our messaging and increase our visibility across all media
  • Work with the Research and Knowledge Team to shape research and data activity to inform and influence policy
  • Promote a culture of consistent and high-quality partnership working across the organisation and identify opportunities for developing our work and support for the sector
