Job Description

DMU is embedded within the locality and committed to regular and sustained engagement with the people and organisations in the local civic and community life of Leicester.It is an exciting time for the Directorate as we launch our new Engagement framework which aligns our work to the Empowering University strategy - aiming to empower our students, staff and partners to create a fairer society. We will be committing to increasingour civic and community across the city and region, in line with the direction of the university and to establish activities and projects that support the delivery of our vision and mission.RoleWe are seeking a Civic and Community Engagement Officer to join our Partnerships and Engagement team. We will look to the new post holder to reinvigorate community networks within the city and region, and to work with existing partners in creating innovativeprojects that support both student experience and community outcomes.We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join a highly motivated team, to help shape new networks and partners for DMU, that will create opportunities for students to get involved in communities and organisations across Leicester. The successful candidatewill work with both the Head of Partnerships and Engagement, and the Public Engagement Manager, to formulate a clear strategic approach to community activity and civic engagement in the city, to ensure they are delivering high quality outcomes for studentsand partners alike.We are seeking committed and highly motivated applicants who would like to take on this ambitious area of work and to explore new ways of working that deliver both purpose and impact. Working in this team requires flexibility and a preparedness to work withagility, operating both autonomously and as part of the whole team as required.The role is on a full time (37 hours per week), permanent basis.Ideal CandidateTo succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A good level of education, degree level or equivalent
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Experience of partnership and contract management
  • An understanding of the civic and community landscape in the city and region
  • An understanding of the importance of wider engagement to the whole student experience
  • Empathy for the goals of DMU and an understanding of some of the current challenges within higher education and community engagement
The role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, the level of DBS check will be determined at offer stage.
