Job Description

Buyer - Engineering East Midlands - commutable from Leicester, Hinckley and Lutterworthc£35k neg dep exp + generous benefitsOur client can demonstrate almost half a centurys expertise in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke special purpose automation solutions for a diverse range of industry sectors and applications and are regarded by many in the industry as oneof the leading automation systems providers in the whole of the UK.As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth for 2024 and beyond, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and proactive Engineering Buyer to complement their established and successful purchasing team and play a criticalrole in the procurement process, focusing specifically on sourcing and purchasing materials, components and equipment necessary for multiple high value engineering projects.It is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate a combination of technical expertise, negotiation skills and a deep understanding of engineering specifications, and will possess excellent communication and influencing skills at all levelsto ensure effective communication with the engineering team, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods.Core responsibilities for this varied and challenging Buyer position will include (but not be limited to):

  • Identifying and sourcing materials, components and equipment required for engineering projects.
  • Assisting in project planning timescales to ensure Gross Profit targets are achieved and business requirements are met and all BOMs are within budget.
  • Evaluating potential suppliers, considering factors such as quality, cost, and delivery timelines and identifying potential risks in the supply chain and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain and monitoring their performance.
  • Developing a comprehensive technical understanding of engineering solutions provided and working closely with the design and engineering teams to understand project requirements and technical specifications.
  • Effectively negotiating pricing and contract terms with suppliers to ensure cost effectiveness and a competitive advantage and analysing market trends and industry pricing to make informed negotiation decisions.
  • Generating purchase orders and assisting in the tracking of order statuses
