Job Description

Role: UNIX / Spectrum Scale (GPFS) Systems EngineerLocation: Remote - Flexible / Work From HomeSalary: £55-70,000 dependent on experienceKey areas: UNIX Support, AIX, Spectrum Scale, IBM, GPFS, Tivoli, TSM, UNIX Systems AdministrationChapman Tate Associates seeks a UNIX / Spectrum Scale (GPFS) Systems Engineer to join this established IBM Premier Business partner. As a Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and supporting our clients UNIX AIX and Spectrum Scale environments, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability.Responsibilities:

  1. Design and deploy UNIX AIX and Spectrum Scale infrastructure solutions, including system installations, upgrades, and configurations.
  2. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patch management, firmware upgrades, and system monitoring.
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to UNIX AIX systems, including performance optimization and security vulnerabilities.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of UNIX AIX environments with other systems and applications.
  5. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
  6. Participate in capacity planning activities to ensure scalability and performance of UNIX AIX infrastructure.
  7. Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to Spectrum Scale and AIX, recommending innovative solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
Requirements:
  1. Proven experience as a UNIX AIX Systems Engineer, including designing, implementing, and supporting large-scale UNIX AIX environments.
  2. Strong knowledge of AIX operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  3. Previous experience of working with Spectrum Scale
  4. Solid understanding of virtualization technologies (PowerVM, LPARs, WPARs) and storage concepts (SAN, NAS).
  5. Experience with system performance tuning and capacity planning.
  6. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  8. Relevant certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator or IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert - AIX are a plus.
