Job Description

Tax Service Line Overview We provide bespoke advice in all areas of taxation, helping our clients to navigate the complexities of tax codes, often in multiple jurisdictions, and to help them ensure they are fulfilling all their obligations and paying the correct amount of tax. In this way we help them to manage an area of significant financial and reputational risk and to make properly informed decisions about their tax position whether they are an individual, a business owner or a corporate organisation. We also help clients resolve any disputes they have with the tax authorities as swiftly as possible. Job Purpose The Leeds Tax team has enjoyed significant growth over the last 3 years. We are therefore looking for a strong and conscientious Director to support continued growth and securing strategic targets.As a Director within the Leeds office your role will be advisory focussed. You will work closely with the Partner team to deliver a high quality corporate tax service to entrepreneurial Privately Owned Businesses.Your primary focus will be to project manage complex advisory projects, whilst also managing existing client relationships and actively pursuing new opportunities, thus helping to generate advisory work from existing and new clients. Role & Responsibilities

  • Project manage complex advisory projects for entrepreneurial and Privately Owned Businesses;
  • Build strong relationships with clients and guide them through complex transactions;
  • Maintaining a strong technical knowledge in respect of all taxes relevant to Privately Owned Business transactions. Preferably a strong knowledge of all of corporation tax, income tax and capital gains tax;
  • Sharing knowledge with members of the team and assisting more junior team members in their research to ensure that our tax advice is technically accurate;
  • Reviewing technical analysis prepared by more junior members of the team, including the impact that this may have on clients;
  • Taking a leadership role in the team, being forward thinking with ideas and proactive on how to develop and achieve a strategy for the tax team;
  • Liaising with intermediaries (being banks, lawyers or financial advisors), and colleagues throughout advisory engagements;
  • Help develop the business and seek new opportunities both within Mazars and externally by maintaining a strong network of contacts and referrers of work;
  • Managing WIP, debtors and fees;
  • Being actively involved in the development and progression of more junior members of the team;
  • Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Entrepreneurial business tax focus, with experience in advisory transactions such as: group reorganisations, demergers, incorporations, succession planning, commercial transactions and due diligence;
  • A strong technical knowledge of all taxes relevant to corporate tax advisory work;
  • Strong client handling skills and the ability to develop good relationships with clients and other professionals;
  • The individual would be expected to delegate efficiently, review work and have the ability to encourage and foster development of the more junior members of the team;
  • Equally the individual will need to be able to work collaboratively with the senior management team in the continued growth of the business, and have a strong network of intermediaries.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
  • Adaptable, organised with a commercial approach;
  • Ability and/or willingness to research complex technical issues;
  • Ability to exercise judgement;
  • Ability to help generate creative solutions to problems;
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and apply best practice on risk management issues;
