Job Description

Fantastic new role for a Systems Operations Manager, to join the busy Technology Services team at StepChange Debt Charity. This is a key appointment for the charity, responsible for managing and leading the SysOps team and ensuring our services are fast,highly available and scalable. Would suit someone who is passionate about system reliability and solving production problems, with strong organisational and people management skills.With this role you can enjoy the benefits of hybrid working, combining working from home with some days in our new offices in Leeds City Centre.What you will be doing

  • Acquire and develop the necessary domain knowledge to effectively troubleshoot and repair an outage.
  • Engage, influence, and evangelise SysOps practices with development, operational and product groups to align technology service/solution delivery.
  • Drive quality accountability within the organisation with well-defined processes, metrics, and goals for process quality. This includes leading effective post-mortems and ensuring actions are followed-up.
  • Manage availability, latency, scalability and efficiency of StepChanges applications development by instilling operational requirements into our development life cycle with a focus on fault tolerant approaches.
  • Drive capacity planning, performance analysis, instrumentation and other non-functional systems requirements.
  • Must be able to define and report on strategic initiates and project level tasks to all stakeholders including senior leaders.
  • Manage and lead several multi-disciplinary teams focused on delivering a combination of strategic development, small change, live incident fixes and problem resolution.
  • Responsible for leading the teams and setting high level strategy so that they are able to achieve performance and quality targets in line with agreed quality standards.
  • Ensure that the charitys agreed Change Management Framework (CMF) is being followed in order to optimise delivery. Continually strive for improved ways of working in the delivery space.
  • Improve the overall productivity across the teams, leading and supporting the drive to improve methods and processes, actively seeking to remove roadblocks and hand-offs.
  • Act as a key escalation point for SysOps team to provide advice and guidance on technical, process and people challenges that arise and leading them to discover and implement creative solutions.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the charitys priorities and work closely with the Head of IT Operations and other members of the Technology Services SLT to determine and implement the IT roadmap.

  • Experience recruiting and building high performing teams.
  • Previous experience of line managing multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies.
  • Experience in the delivery of large scale, complex change.
  • Expert knowledge in all aspects of supporting and developing large real-time systems.
