The successful candidate will be dealing with a wide variety of Professional and Management risks and wider financial lines risks including Cyber and Technology risks. This is an area of considerable growth and a great opportunity to join and establishedbut growing team. This team is often an integral part of projects developing the book and improving the way we do business.The opportunity of the Senior Underwriter is to be an integral part of the Professional and Management risks renewal team providing an excellent underwriting service for brokers in the UK. As a senior member of the team you will be required to be pro-active,build and maintain good relationships internally and externally. Monitor and analyse broker activity to identify success and areas for improvement and provide feedback to the team leader.What youll be doing:Manage a portfolio and risks, underwrite large and complex renewal cases within the defined underwriting authorityCollaborate with the Markel Claims team on claims on complex cases to ensure the best outcomes for policyholders and MarkelDemonstrate and promote a thorough knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels in order to achieve profitability and underwriting objectivesProvide excellent service to our brokers, prioritising renewals and mid-term adjustments to ensure deadlines are met and maximising our business development opportunitiesAttend underwriting and broker meetings as required throughout the year and to provide insight into developments, trends and feedback on market conditionsManage renewal cases working as appropriate with the broker to secure renewal and upsell/ cross-sell additional coversBuild and maintain excellent working relationships with the Technical department and the wider businessDevelop team members technical knowledge through mentoring, day to day underwriting referrals and exposure to underwriting risksAssisting the team and wider business with ad hoc projectsOur must haves:Have strong experience of financial lines underwriting including Professional Liability, Cyber and / or Management RisksAbility to review wordings, lead in the complexities of drafting clauses/ endorsements and tailored wordingsExcellent written and spoken communication skillsA high level of accuracy and attention to detailTrack record in building and developing broker relationshipsAbility to regularly analyse competitors products, capabilities and appetite and share within the teamProven ability to renew business whilst maintaining underwriting disciplineACII and/or similar qualification preferredWho we are:Markel Corporation (NYSE - MKL) a Fortune 500 company with over 60 offices in 20+ countries, is a holding company for insurance, reinsurance, specialist advisory and investment operations around the world.Were all about people | We win together | We strive for better| We enjoy the everyday We think furtherAvencia Consulting are an RPO who provide a recruitment service to our client Markel International.Whats in it for you:
