Job Description

We have a fantastic role for a Senior Network Engineer with our market leading technology client.The Senior Network Engineer will work as part of the Network Engineering department within the Project and Operations Division.The Senior Network Engineer will proactively monitor and assess the network, diagnose, report and resolve issues related to the performance of the network, and perform Networking tasks to assist with the facilitation and delivery of technical projects. They will also be a second or third line point of contact for interdepartmental and customer enquiries.Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Proactively investigate raised network impacting issues and events, using internal monitoring tools
  • Act as a second/third line point of escalation within the Network Engineering Team, acting as a point of escalation and transfer for
  • technical queries within the Networking team and interdepartmentally
  • Utilisation of reporting systems for deeper level customer investigations, and standard/ad hoc customer reporting
  • Monitoring and evaluation of network performance, including; availability, utilisation, throughput, and latency
  • Actively monitor and action requests received to the Network Engineering ticketing queue
  • Documentation of standard operating procedures, diagrams, and training materials
  • Support the Network Engineering department to ensure adherence to service and operational levels
  • Proactively maintaining and updating internal systems used within the Network Engineering Team (as appropriate)
  • Escorting and monitoring of site visitors to designated secure areas
  • Traveling to customer site locations and business points of presence within the UK, where required
  • Traffic analysis of infrastructure to identify capacity constraints, implementing resolution actions, where required
  • Leverage existing and emerging technologies to identify solutions
  • To investigate and resolve high-priority and complex incidents on network related issues
  • Working with Network Engineer to build and deliver services in accordance with project requirements
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities
  • Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior team members
  • Escorting and monitoring of site visitors to designated secure areas
  • Traveling to customer site locations and business points of presence within the UK, where required

  • Technical:
  • In-depth knowledge working with and troubleshooting skills when working with routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, andMPLS
  • Extensive experience working on Metro Ethernet platforms and optical engineering technologies managing and implementation of DWDM network components
  • Experienced in Unix/Linux having worked on projects utilising applications such as Quagga, BIRD, and FRR, including the deployment of Ubuntu-based servers
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of TCP/IP model as well the OSI model
  • Deep understanding of VLANs, STP, VRRP/HSRP, LACP, NAT, Load-Balancers, QoS, and VPN technologies including Layer 2 & 3 VPNs
  • Extensive configuration and troubleshooting knowledge on multiple vendor platforms, including Junos, Cisco (IOS, XE,XR), AristaEOS, RouterOS, Cumulus, and OCNOS
  • Working knowledge of Script languages; Python and GO
  • Knowledge of Virtualisation platforms KVM, VMware, HyperV
  • Understanding of web filtering solutions and firewall technologies including, IPS/IDS, DPI/Application control, and SSL decryption
  • Educational:
  • Educated to GCSE level with qualifications in Maths and English
  • Industry Specific Regulatory Awareness
  • CCNP/JNCIP
  • Experience:
  • 2 years experience working in chosen team environment
  • 2 years experience working in a wider telecoms environment
