Job Description

Position: Senior Lecturer – BA (Hons) AnimationSalary: £39,152 - £42,792 pro rata (£23,491.20 - £25,675.20 per annum)Hours: Part Time (0.6 FTE)Contract: Fixed Term – Up to 12 months Maternity CoverLeeds Arts University is now recognised as the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 170 years, and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff. The BA (Hons) Animation course was introduced in September 2013. This specialist course of study focuses on the role of applied animation in the creative industries and broader visual culture. This is an exciting time to join and make a significant contribution to a dynamic course.This role would suite someone working in a higher education environment and who wants to maintain their own practice. The main focus on the role will be to coordinate, deliver, support and assess practice based animation modules across level 4, 5 and 6. You will be expected to have an excellent understanding on 2D digital animation on a practical, technical and conceptual level as well as a deep understanding of discourse surrounding animation practice. As part of the role you will be required to provide and technical studio support to animation students using a range of Adobe Creative Cloud software, Toon Boom Harmony, Storyboard Pro. The ability to use and support TV Paint, Autodesk Maya and DragoneFrame would be desirable. You will also be required to support the practice based research modules at Levels 4, 5 and 6. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lecturer, seminars, studio workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.You will also need the skills to establish links with external employers, identify opportunities for exhibiting and promote student work.The successful candidate will have an MA in Animation or a related discipline, be able to demonstrate extensive specialist animation skills and support critical thinking and reflective practice. You will be expected to engage with the University’s research agenda. The role will require a commitment of 3 days a week across the academic year.
