Job Description

Principal Ecologist - LeedsI am currently working with multinational engineering, design, planning, architectural design, project management and consulting services company. They are looking for a Senior/Principal Ecologist to join their team in Leeds. You will have the opportunityto contribute to nationally significant and high-profile projects, with many winning awards for biodiversity enhancements, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Some of my clients projects include working on the Dubai Opera, HS2 and much more!Key Responsibilities

  • Leading on nationally important infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
  • Collaborating with our multi-disciplinary teams and undertaking stakeholder engagement.
  • Providing ecological input to a varied range of projects across different sectors.
  • Leading, planning, and co-ordinating field surveys, analysing and interpreting survey results.
  • Working with design teams and planning and co-ordinating ecological mitigation works.
  • Undertaking reporting of Preliminary Ecological Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments, and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Preparing protected species licence applications.
  • Designing and co-ordinating ecological mitigation.
  • Authoring and checking/reviewing a range of ecological reports and licence applications.
  • Managing work enquiries, preparing bids, and building client relationships.
Skills / Qualifications
  • A degree in ecology or closely related field.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), chartership, or being on the route to chartership (Client to cover membership costs.)
  • Good working knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements and best practice survey techniques.
  • Capable at undertaking survey and reporting for Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Ecological Impact Assessment.
  • Demonstrable specialist ecological knowledge, such as botanical survey skills and/or survey skills for one or more protected species, ideally with a focus on Scottish species and habitats.
  • Strong botanical and bat survey skills (e.g., bat licenced and/or FISC level 3/4) would be particularly desirable.
  • A full valid UK/EEC driving licence.
