Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Future Energies, based from Leeds, the Sustainability Investment Officer will be exposed to all areas of the business by ensuring that the varied portfolio of innovation projects is in compliance with strict internal and externalgovernance.Through active engagement with internal and external stakeholders the role holder will ensure successful projects are rolled out business-wide.The post holder will be required to manage the net-zero R&D portfolio. Developing and working with a portfolio of internal and external partners to develop technologies to enhance the wider future energies strategy.Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Part of the role will be to actively seek out new partnerships in order to enhance the portfolio related to hydrogen future energy strategy, including possible funding possibilities and reaching out to companies associated with Research and Development.
  • Requirement to undertake local and possibly national lobbying to support the Head of Energy Futures. In addition to identifying PR and Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities working with colleagues to deliver appropriate responses and maximise publicityfor the hydrogen futures strategy.
  • Responsible for ensuring a wide range of innovation ideas are generated across all areas of the business or proposed to the business by third parties via a multitude of methods such as calls for innovation.
  • Responsible for the management and delivery of the businesses hydrogen portfolio, ensuring that all projects are managed in line with business and regulatory governance requirements.
  • The Sustainability Investment Officer will operate as the gatekeeper and is responsible for ensuring that all prospects being presented meet compliance needs of the hydrogen project strategy.
  • The postholder will actively engage with business finance, regulation, communications and innovation team internally in addition to project partners externally. As well represent business interests at meetings, presentations, conferences etc as required
  • The Sustainability Investment Officer will be an essential key player in the promotion of an innovation culture within the business with an effective communications strategy, reporting mechanism and a delivery flow of projects. Providing expert knowledgeon all aspect of business improvement processes and strategy. Ensuring projects within their span of control are delivered to business expectations and robust procedures are in place to deliver projects

Expertise, knowledge, and experience required:
  • Be a self-starter; with the ability to work in a diverse team.

  • Experience of application processes for funding streams
  • Demonstrate effective communications skills
  • Manage a varied workload and take responsibility for meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to deliver presentations that influence and engage at all levels.
  • Flexibleable to travel around the geographical area as and when required in relation to hydrogen futures and to represent NGN at various stakeholder events/forums.
  • Have a good understanding of all other network departmental activities
  • Have knowledge of appropriate legislation, policies and procedures
  • Have knowledge of Financial & Investment procedures
Qualifications required:
  • A full driving licence
  • High level of managerial and project management skills together with effective communications skills
  • Leadership and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of NIA, NIC and associated Ofgems reporting requirements
  • Regulatory reporting requirements
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Experience of delivering a portfolio of diverse projects
