Job Description

Large Loss LawyerJob Purpose This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with Julian Dexter in our Complex Injury Claims Team dealing with large loss claims. In this role you will assist a lead lawyer on more complex claims as well as running your own multi-track EL/PL and RTAcaseload. Experience of indemnity, liability and complex medical issues is preferred and excellent attention to detail essential.The role also includes the need to engage with sophisticated senior claims handlers in long-standing insurance clients. In this role you may also be required to assist your Lead Lawyer in activities which enhance and develop Keoghs’ profile. We are opento receiving applications from full or part time applicants (28 to 35 hours per week) and open to any of our office locations in Coventry, Bolton, Manchester or Leeds.Key Accountabilities You will work as part of a team progressing each file from receipt of papers from the insurer client to resolution of the claim dealing with all aspects of liability and quantum as well as indemnity issues as they arise.The role will include:• Managing a caseload of complex injury claims consisting of claims typically valued up to £250k.• Working with the Lead Lawyer to manage high value complex and catastrophic claims including brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, chronic pain and fatal claims.• Communicating with sophisticated insurer clients, advising them on all aspects of claims and keeping them updated as the matter progresses.• Developing relationships with Keoghs’ clients in order to attract work on an instruction by instruction basis.• Drafting all pleadings to include defences and counter schedules in complex cases.• Forensic analysis of voluminous liability and quantum evidence, identifying anomalies and other relevant information across various sources and categories of evidence.• Drafting concise technical advice on all aspects of claim handling to include indemnity, liability, quantum, causation and strategy.• Building rapport with solicitors for other parties in order to engage meaningfully with them to progress the matter to conclusion and achieve excellent results for our clients.• Attending site visits, MDT meetings, client meetings, mediation and JSMs.• Engaging with counsel and experts in conference and on the telephone.• Delivery of agreed performance targets and quality standards.• Dealing with costs budgets in conjunction with costs lawyers.• Responsibility for a caseload of up to c.25-30 large loss files.• Delegation to more junior members of the team and be fully engaged in their development in terms of technical ability and achievement of objectives.• Maintaining case managements systems with up to date management information for clients.• To ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & RegulationsExperience, Skills and Qualifications • Qualified solicitor, CILEX or proven relevant legal experience is essential• High value multi track file handling experience.• Positive, confident and enthusiastic.• Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills including the ability to compose professional written communications.• Good advocacy skills.• Excellent inter-personal and client care skills.• Understanding of case law and litigation practice and process, and Court Practice Rules• Strong knowledge of relevant insurance principles• Ability to plan and prioritise workloads, keep to deadlines and work under pressure.• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.• Ability to weigh facts, apply the law and make decisions.• Ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions.• Driven to achieve to take development opportunities when they arise with a positive attitude.• Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required.• Confidence to take initiative to innovate and adapt to changing situations.• Confidence to seek advice and guidance when dealing with new tasks.• Ability to follow instruction and with attention to detail and to give clear instruction, direction and guidance to more junior members of the team.• Ability to recognise when sensitivity and tact are required.• Ability to effectively work within a team.• Proficient IT skills (Word, Excel and Office).What you can expect from us:A learning culture with employee development at the heart of the people development pathway - Health Care Cash Plan - a Keoghs’ sponsored healthcare scheme which provides cash contributions for a number of healthcare services including optical and dental services - WeCare - 24/7 online GP, mental health support and virtual wellbeing covering a whole host of topics to do with health, mental health, wellbeing & healthy living and financial & legal wellbeing - Annual Leave - 25 days plus 8 bank holidays (opportunity to buy & sell 3 days), increases to 26 days after 5 years’ service and 27 days after 10 years’ service - Death In Service - after 1 years’ service - Pension Contribution - provided as a contributory scheme in which if eligible, the Company will contribute fixed at 3%, employee contribution 5% as standard - Cycle to Work Scheme- Tech Scheme - Season Ticket Loan - Gym FlexOur culture is focussed on making Keoghs sustainable and successful for our people and clients, with this our four values are at the heart of everything we do.Keoghs valuesWe are connectedWe are DynamicWe are InnovativeWe succeed together
