Job Description

Applicants are invited to apply for the exciting opportunity to become a Head of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Private Office within the Nursing and Midwifery Directorate at Health Education England.The Head of Private Office will report to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The successful candidate will deliver the management of all corporate business within the CNO’s team, working in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery Senior Management Team. This will include preparation of all outward facing activity and correspondence, oversight of internal communications, acting as an efficient intermediary for the Private Office and line managing the secretariat function within the Senior Nursing and Midwifery Leadership. The post holder will have a key role in liaising with the Department of Health and Social Care at senior levels, the equivalent senior nursing and midwifery leadership across NHSE/I and supporting the Private Office with major conferences, exhibitions and events, including meetings with government officials and the Secretary of State.They will also take responsibility for the proactive management and leadership of the Private Office staff and budget. The post holder will work across HEE and NHSE/I in meeting their responsibilities and accountabilities, ensuring effective governance and compliance. This involves working in a highly sensitive and political environment and requires a degree of scrutiny and challenge as well as effective upward management and influence, including engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at senior levels.The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience in leading and managing teams and a detailed understanding of the NHS environment and its challenges.
  • Manage the Directorate secretariat function to ensure the effectiveness and smooth running of the breadth of National Senior Nursing and Midwifery Team activities
  • Lead, influence and challenge the 7 regional Nursing Teams -not sure we can say they will lead the regional nursing teams
  • Lead the strategic formulation and planning, allocation and delivery of a broad range of tasks on behalf of HEE’s Chief Nurse for members of the Executive Team, ensuring risks, issues and dependencies are identified and proactively managed to achieve high quality outcomes, using own judgement to determine how policies are interpreted in relation to the CN private office
  • Facilitate partners across the healthcare systems in recognising the importance of workforce in driving service transformation and be an excellent communicator.
  • This role offers opportunities for working at a local, regional, and national level to deliver the key mandated deliverables across the region for a number of key priority areas. A broad range of skills will be needed for this role.HEE is a supportive employer for nurturing development and encouraging talent.Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £63,751, with a pay step increase after 5 years’ service. These salaries are offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and the HEE Pay Progression Policy and are subject to annual cost of living review.For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,473 per annum and a maximum payment of £6,890 per annum.
