Job Description

Kloeckner Metals UK (KMUK’) is the UK subsidiary of Kloeckner and Co, (Kloeckner) the German listed, market-leading, €6.3bn turnover, 8,600 employee, global steel trading and distribution group based in Duisburg, Germany. Kloeckner consistently invests between 15 million and 20 million Euros per year in digitalization of the metals supply chain.The UK business, headquartered in Leeds, operates out of 11 principal locations and employs circa 710 staffWe are currently recruiting for a Financial Controller for our flagship site in Leeds. This is a fixed term contract position for a period of circa 10 to 12 months.The main purpose of this role:The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the Finance and Treasury functions and the overall record to report (R2R) process, including month-end/ year-end close and the preparation of the financial statements and ad hoc reports. As a member of the Broad Leadership team, the Finance Controller liaises directly with Board members and other key decision-makers as well as external business partners on the full range of Finance topics. The Financial Controller reports directly to the Finance Director.Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the finance control team of 3-4 persons in the UK Record to Report (R2R) team
  • Ensuring accuracy and timely output from the outsourced R2R functions in India
  • Closely working alongside the AR/AP manager and FPA manager in key areas
  • Monthly closing and analysis
  • Setting and overseeing internal controls, including participating in the IC self-assessments process
  • Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of the period’s financial reporting (monthly, quarterly and year-end)
  • Delivery of half year reviews and full year end audits (IFRS)
  • Filing of UK statutory accounts (IFRS) for the Company’s legal entities (3 active legal entities)
  • Acting as key point of contact in managing key relationships with external stakeholders including Audit, Tax advisors, banking relationships and HMRC relationship managers
  • Acting as key point of contact for corresponding Group functions in Germany (e.g. Accounting, Treasury, Tax)
  • UK Group tax reporting (working with external advisors), timely tax submissions, quarterly VAT returns, tax compliance projects
  • Mentoring of other members of the Finance team and Managers across the business on Finance topics
  • Treasury and Cash flow management, including weekly forecasting and reporting to Group
  • Forex Management / basic hedging activities such as forward contracts
  • Balance Sheet Ownership
  • Process and control improvement
  • Review and challenging of overhead costs and CAPEX spend
  • Seeking opportunities to generate additional value or achieve cost reductions on projects
