Job Description

Internal advert: Estates & Facilities Virtual Assessment Centre Event:Please note: This is not an IT Position: However, you will need to have access to a both Microsoft Teams and a camera to undertake the process visually.The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are looking for flexible and reliable individuals required to work in our Patient Environment Department as a Facilities Technicians (Patient Environment) at St James, which is a band 2 post. This redesigned post has replaced the traditional band 1 positions of the former Ward Housekeeping, Portering and Ward Environment Porter (WEP) roles.The Facilities Technician position will have a primary role, which will involve spending the vast majority of their time completing e.g. Housekeeping type duties. However, the successful applicant will be trained and would be available to complete, from time to time, other roles, including Portering and acting as a Receptionist, as an example. Please indicate in the “supporting information” part of the application, which is your preferred post type (s:)Facilities Technician-Primary role is Housekeeping: (ward cleaning/catering for patients)Facilities Technician-Primary role is Portering, (working full time ’37.5 hours’, variable shifts, including, days, nights and weekends.There are a small number of part-time weekend positions; in the Housekeeping service, however these are limited, along with part time evening cleaning roles. We currently have permanent vacancies, for Facilities Technicians to primarily work as Ward Housekeepers’ to function either on Wards, Department areas or public thoroughfares. The successful candidates will be required to work at St James Hospital. Duties will include providing a dual function of both cleaning and catering service provision to the wards/departments at the St James’. The maintenance of the environment to a high standard of cleanliness is essential within the role. Catering duties involve the service delivery to an optimum standard and a highly efficient meal & beverage service to patients.There will be an expectation to complete ad-hoc duties as and when required.The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, good team players and able to work on their own initiative and be able to demonstrate the Leeds Way values, these being:-

Vacant Posts at the LGI, Chapel Allerton, Seacroft and Wharfedale Hospitals will advertised separately. As you will have established, the Facilities Technician job description, requires as per the essential criteria of the role, that all successful applicants have competent, ‘IT skills and are also computer literate.’Therefore, Stage 1, of the Virtual Assessment Centre, aims to evidence that they possess these skills. Stage 1Shortlisted candidates will be initially required to watch a pre-recorded presentation at home, which provides an overview of the role; the applicant has applied for, as well as providing an overview of the various roles within Estates & Facilities.The presentation also provides an insight into what it is like to work for Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.Once the applicant has watched the short presentation, they will then be directed to complete a short survey which is based on what they have been shown within the presentation.It is important to note, that this survey will be timed and scored, as by completing the survey and successfully passing the survey, provides assurance that the applicant meets the level of I.T skills required for the role.The applicant will have a maximum10 minutes to complete this survey and there is a pass mark to achieve in order for the applicant to be invited to the next stage, ie 2, of the process.Please note if the survey is not completed within the time period given, the applicant will be disqualified from the process. Applicants, whom have not been successful in passing the survey, will not move onto Stage 2 and will therefore be recorded as unsuccessful in their application for the role.Stage 2If the applicant is successful in Stage 1 of the assessment, they will be invited to attend Stage 2 of the Virtual Assessment Centre process. Please allow 1.5 hours for this stage of the process.Stage 2 will consists of the following:
  • 2 scenarios aimed at demonstrating their ability to learn and follow instruction as well as their interpersonal skills, measured against the Leeds Way Values.
  • A Formal interview.
  • Stage 2 of the process will be held via digital platform Microsoft Teams and the requirement to be able to see the candidate during the process is required. Therefore the applicant must be able to access/ download Microsoft Teams using their laptop, tablet or phone, with a camera facility in advance of the day.An overview of expected timescales for the process can be found below:Shortlisting completion - 29th September 2020.Shortlisted candidates will receive Stage 1 links on the 1st of October 2020 for completion by the 6th of October 2020.If applicants are successful in Stage 1 of the process, they will be notified in advance of Stage 2.
