Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager to join our HR team on a 12 months FTC, reporting into the HR Director. The right candidate will have significant experience in this field of work, with specialist knowledge of legislation and best practice. You will help shape the charity’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion, helping us identify and embed best practice in this area and a significant expertise to develop and implement a new strategy in order to achieve systemic change.What you will be doingThis is a great opportunity to develop and formulate StepChange’s EDI strategy and associated implementation plan, working with the Executive project owners, the wider Executive Board and the Senior Leadership Team. The role will focus on leadership and engagement in developing the overarching strategy, together with frameworks, tools and policies that enable the achievement of this strategy and measurement of its successful implementationKey accountabilities

  • Co-ordinate internal activities, such as focus groups, to understand varied viewpoints and to maximise buy in and ownership of the strategy
  • Consider and recommend appropriate cultural development requirements to ensure successful implementation and embedding of the strategy
  • Review the candidate and employee life cycle to understand current limitations and changes which need to be made to achieve the EDI strategy
  • Consider talent pipeline and wider community approaches which would maximise StepChange’s ability to closely reflect the communities which it serves (both as an employer and as a service provider)
  • Manage external providers, ensuring cost-effective and value-added contribution to the development and implementation plan
  • Collaborate with multiple functions including; Marketing, Internal Communications, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development and Human Resources to ensure a consistent and holistic approach
  • Experience and knowledge
  • Substantial experience of developing and implementing strategies, frameworks, tools and policies across the employment life cycle in the area of EDI that have had a meaningful and visible impact on organisational success
  • Extensive understanding of the barriers individuals - particularly those from protected characteristics face in a work place, with an understanding of intersectionality and how that impacts people in the workplace.
  • Experience of building credible networks and partnerships
  • Experience in providing strategic advice and influencing key decision-making
  • Experience of influencing systemic change through others
  • Exposure to HR, CSR and Executive working relationships (desirable)
  • Skills and abilities
  • Passionate about EDI and the role it plays in the development of a successful organisation* Excellent written and presentation skills, highly effective communicator with the ability to communicate findings and recommendations to a variety of audiences and through a range of mediums
  • Customer focussed and dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders
  • Confident in challenging the norm and influencing stakeholders outside of immediate team
  • Well-developed project management skills, able to take plans from concept and design through to execution and measurement and the ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities
