Our technology, our culture, and our mind-set is changing to craft a true engineering-led organisation.Our Cloud Engineering team is looking for an experienced and passionate Engineering Lead to lead the Infrastructure Provisioning team working on one of the Groups flagship projects to deliver a strategic platform for Cloud that will enable the businessto realise the next generation of services that form the Banks vision for 2023 and beyond!The role is a hands-on leadership role leading from the frontsetting an example of behaviours and practices for team members to learn from and adopt in their own careers and development. An advocate for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers withinthe teams, identifying and supporting them with resolution of impediments and issues as well as continually developing yourself and the team along industry trends.Specific activities which youll be responsible for include things like;

• Leading and supporting hands on the engineering team in the development of an orchestration layer and associated SDKs, APIs and cloud functions that drives fully self service cloud environment creation using a combination of both Terraform and downstreamAPI pipelines.
• Leading, mentoring and developing the skills of the team
• Being responsible for the Product Roadmap and contributing to wider Cloud Technology Roadmaps
• Developing and delivering elements of the roadmap
• Contributing to the design and delivery of cloud platforms and automation systems
• Driving the creation / maintenance / prioritisation of the backlog with the team and ensuring the needs of our consumers are anticipated and included on the backlog
• Communicating the backlog and roadmap across key teams within and beyond our Cloud Services area
• Always seeking opportunities for improvements, new features and implementing them

Skills we need to see from applicantsEngineering Lead skills70% role

• Experience of leading a team of software or Infrastructure engineers a blend of both deep domain and technical expertise within a team
• Development experience background with a more recent move to Azure or GCP Cloud or Infrastructure worlds, ideally including experience of application / systems design
• Demonstration of passion for developing your team in a "player-coach" model, including developing and shaping the team
• Familiar with working in an Agile / Scrum base manner

Technical skills

• A passion for continuous improvement via automation and self service
• A Practitioner of an IaC tool, preferably Terraform, but others such as Ansible will be considered
• Knowledge of API brokers or API orchestration layers in general, plus development of RESTful APIs
• Good experience of scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl, PowerShell etc)
• Uses CI/CD pipelines using any of Jenkins, Github Actions or equivalent along with GitHub & GitOps

Product owner30 % of role

• Create / maintain / prioritise the backlog for your products and team to maximise the value from our products to our customers
• Provide regular constructive feedback to the team
• Create / maintain / Deliver against a directional roadmap
• Work with our internal customers to understand and anticipate their needs and build these into the backlogs
• Has strong Communication skills

Desirable Skills

• Azure Public Cloud knowledge especially Azure Functions, Azure API Manager, and relational or NoSQL Cloud Databases from an application point of view e.g. CosmosDB
• Keen to remove bottlenecks, toil and repetitive work that affects developer velocity
• Knows what a developer wants and needs from a cloud platform
• Experience of automating a Secrets manager e.g. Hashicorp Vault, or other
• An understanding of Cloud Security concepts
• Cloud Certifications are welcome
