Job Description

Design Coordinator - Modular Construction, Salary: to £35k + Excellent benefits and career opportunities, Based: Morley, Leeds. Flexible working considered.We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Coordinator to work for a global and leading Modular Building / off-site Construction business. Applicants will need to have experience Design Coordinator or similar technical / designer role within a constructiondesign and build environment.*note: the internal job title for this role is Technical Solutions Coordinator.Overview:The Design Coordinator will lead the design/technical input during the bid/pre-contract stages of a project. The role will cover a wide variety of sectors, such as; Education, Health and Care, Defence, Institutional Residential and Commercial markets. Allsolutions are to be developed using the latest offsite, modern methods of construction.Design Coordinator duties / responsibilities:

  • Support business development team in client meetings and presentations to create clear strategies and secure opportunities.
  • Assist on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities to control and interrogate the activities of external design consultants.
  • Prepare drawings and technical responses for inclusion in PQQ and tender submissions.
  • Liaise and support the Head of Design in formal appointment of design consultants, ensuring design responsibilities are fully aligned with project objectives.
  • Manage the early-stage design processes through RIBA Stage 2 Concept Design toward Stage 3 Developed Design for seamless handover to Head of Design for operational delivery of design services.
  • Understand the responsibilities of the Designer, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor as defined in the CDM Regulations 2015
  • In close collaboration with Head of Design, produce, manage and review early design programme in accordance with the master programme, identifying design risk in relation to procurement, sub-contractor selection/scope and Employers Requirements & documentation.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, end users, statutory bodies and design consultants to ensure smooth delivery of the project through all early stages up to contract award where projects will be handed over to Head of Design for delivery.
  • Ensure full compliance with Building Regulations and associated statutory regulations such as Building Bulletins and Health Technical Memorandums.
  • Provide information and support to achieve required project BREEAM (or sector equivalent) rating.
  • Track/Report all areas of the early design process and report to project team areas of concern i.e. sub-contract design, samples approvals, RFIs/TQs, technical submittals etc.
Candidate requirements:
  • Experience in a Design Coordinator or similar role with experience in design management of construction projects £3million+.
  • Excellent technical working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit is an absolute necessity.
  • Experience within Offsite and Modern Methods of Construction an advantage but training will be provided.
  • Experience of design and build contracts with specific knowledge of education, healthcare, institutional residential and commercial buildings.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Expert knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Bulletins and Health Technical Memorandums.
  • Working knowledge of working with BREEAM
  • Knowledge of design and design interrogation software such as Navisworks for example.
  • Knowledge of understanding and implementing: Information Release Schedules, Design Responsibility Matrices, Design Programmes and methods of how design is tracked/managed throughout the design process.
