Job Description

Are you self- motivated and passionate to lead and bring equality within the communityDo you have the skills to develop, raise confidence and build resilience to women, children, young people, and their families, who are underrepresentedYou could be a Community Development Worker for Shantona Womens and Family Centre.Community Development Worker for Families and Young People (Including Boys)Leeds, LS8 5AW35 hours per week, Initial 1 year contractSalary £19,948,77 - £21,805.85 + 6% pension (pro rata)Closing Date for Applications: 26 August 2022Please Note: Applicants must be eligible to work in the UKShantona Womens Centre is a unique service that provides women, children, young people and families with an open and transparent support system.A vacancy has arisen within our Domestic Violence and Abuse Team for a Community Development WorkerWe are seeking to recruit a self-motivated and committed person to work on a range of group and one to one intervention for parents and young people from diverse communities who are impacted by domestic violence and abuse.Your role will focus on raising awareness and building resilience around DVA, forced marriage and honour-based abuse. This will take place in the community and at local schools and community venues..Main Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Target and deliver groupwork sessions in local schools and other community settings.
  • Create a supportive environment for children and young people from diverse communities who have experienced/ witnessed DVA.
  • Manage a caseload of young people at risk of DVA identified through initial contact, risk assessment and 1:1 support and indirectly through other pathways e.g. agencies/ volunteers/ community members, etc.
  • Reach children and young people and signpost them to appropriate services.
  • Deliver tailor-made awareness-raising, parenting support and heathy relationship programmes to women in the community.
  • Use Shantonas monitoring systems to report on statistics/data/outcomes and submit case studies relating to project activity.
  • Ensure that service delivery complies with the legal framework that protects the safety of Children and Young People.
  • Risk assess clients and report in line with policy and procedures.
  • Work with multi-agency partnerships and local agencies to refer on victims who may require support in areas such as housing, debt advice, social services and health providers.
  • Work with volunteers where feasible to enhance the capacity of the service and support them by providing advice and information on DVA and forced marriage issues and cases.
  • Ensure that appropriate reporting, information gathering, and ongoing reports are kept regarding those engaging with and using Shantonas services.
  • Keep and maintain accurate and confidential records, contribute to monitoring information as required by Shantona and observe information sharing protocols/ Data Protection principles, as necessary.
  • Ensure that this information, is provided on a timely basis to the appropriate person, so that our outcomes and statistics can be routinely provided to funders, the CEO and appropriate agencies.
  • Meet all legal and contractual reporting requirements in relation to service delivery, ensuring relevant Service Level Agreements and referral pathways are in place.
Essential Skills/Experience
  • Ability to engage and motivate groups of young people including planning and delivering sessions.
  • Experience of delivering 1 to 1 support.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with children and young people, parents/carers, colleagues, partners, and external agencies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with children and young people.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly using Microsoft Office software packages.
  • 2 years of working with vulnerable young people aged 5-18years
in a community setting
  • Experience planning, delivering, and evaluating group work with children and young people.
  • Working with Bangladeshi or South Asian communities, young people who are at risk of DV and witnessing violence.
  • Experience of working with Bangladeshi/ South Asian women and young people.
  • Ability to speak one of the main South Asian languages (Urdu, Bangla, Punjabi)
  • Ability to understand and interpret data
