Job Description

First West Yorkshire is looking for an outstanding candidate to join our team as a Commercial Director.Location: Hunslet Park (Hybrid Working Available)Contract: Permanent Reporting to the Managing Director, as a Commerical Director, you will be accountable for driving profitable and sustainable revenue within the Operating Company, alongside passenger growth. You will also lead the teams that deliver Marketing, Business Development,Pricing, and Network Planning.About the roleAs a key member of the senior team the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing influential relationships with a wide variety of political, governmental, commercial and community stakeholders across the business. By working collaborativelywith other commercial leaders, you will also play a key role influencing and contributing to the success of the wider First Bus division. You will ensure that the commercial teams are best positioned to support delivery of the First Bus strategyKey Accountabilities

  • Accountable for delivering the marketing, pricing and growth strategy within the Operating Company, ensuring the business realises its market potential
  • Together with other members of the Operating Company leadership team, lead the strategic direction of the Operating Company and fulfil all legal responsibilities as a statutory director
  • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and delivering revenue and passenger growth targets
  • Develop a business-to-business sales plan to deliver increased revenue from corporate partners
  • Responsible for ownership of the brand and the customer experience plan within the Operating Company
  • Lead the Network Team to ensure they use all available data and insight to deliver efficient schedules and a profitable bus network that is responsive to local market needs
  • Represent the business with major local authority stakeholders to build a partnership approach, delivering shared objectives around public transport
  • Accountable for developing agreements with local authorities and other third parties that maximise income from concessionary fares agreements and multi-operator ticketing agreements
About You
  • Strong track record as a credible, senior commercial leader in the service sector
  • Able to lead and influence the wider business, ensuring there is buy-in to a shared commercial and customer vision to deliver transformational growth, whilst staying within a divisional governance framework
  • A proven ability to engage and influence senior external stakeholders
  • Demonstrable record of achievements showing delivery of major change or improvement in a commercial and or marketing environment
  • Able to work in a complex operating environment and have sufficient political skill to meet the needs of multiple internal stakeholders
The successful candidate will be an experienced, customer-focused leader with a collaborative style, a strong commercial acumen and someone whos not afraid to challenge the status quo. But we also need someone who can quickly get to the root of a problemand whos not afraid to get stuck into the detail. Experience of the bus industry is not essential.
