Job Description

An SME, Leeds based business based is working exclusively with Gifford and Partners (GAP) to help them appoint an Assistant Financial Controller in this 10+ month contract as the business embarks on implementing a new system rollout.Getting the best of corporate governance versus agility and autonomy to make a difference, this is one of those roles that sit within a friendly and engaging team and business. As Assistant Financial Controller, this role will get to apply an accounting and commercial approach in a position expected to be split 60/40 between the accounting detail bringing accounting rigour and technical excellence and the other side of providing commercial vision and business partnering. Other key responsibilities will incorporate;

  • Support and overview of financial accounts including delivering accounting rigour, accounting control and balance sheet certainty.
  • Financial Analysis in supporting operations with performance metrics, stock analysis, forecasting and driving business performance.
  • Delivery of clear and accurate financial reporting both monthly and quarterly to senior stakeholders
  • Ensure individuals take ownership of their numbers, driving correct behaviours in financial matters and ensure accountabilities are understood amongst financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Being hands-on and not afraid to get into the numbers and detail
  • Overseeing a team of transactional, part and qualified individuals with at least 2 reporting FMs directly into this role. Give direction and training to engage tasks with the right skills to ensuring delivery and accuracy whilst ensuring correct prioritisation and delegation of workload.
    • Ideally, this role is well suited to a qualified ACA/ACCA/ACMA likely having completed their training with exposure in roles that have been close to the numbers. Some exposure in an SME or mid-sized business would be a distinct advantage. Whilst this is a business where everyone mucks in, there is also an expectation for a hands-on approach where you will be expected to pick up multiple tasks and not be afraid of getting into the detail where required.
