Job Description

The starting salary for this position £13.89per hour plus annual leave allowance of £2.08per hour.Thisrole is for a number of hours per week according to availability (during term time), supporting students in-class at colleges and universities across Surrey.Physical and Sensory Support (PSS) is a targeted specialist education service within Surrey County Council for vulnerable young people.The Physical and Sensory SupportF/HE16+ Team consists of a team of qualified Student Support Workers (SSWs), BSL Interpreters, HE Student Support Tutors and qualified Teachers for sensory impairment (deaf and vision impairment).The Student Support Workerpost is a peripatetic role, providing specialist in-class support to deaf and/or vision impaired students in colleges and universities in and around Surrey.In thisrole you will be required to work in partnership with other professionals as part of Physical and Sensory Support with vulnerable young people in educational settings, providing curriculum access to post-16 students on Further and/or Higher Educationcourses.You will be providing support to deaf and/or vision impaired students according to your skills and qualifications,to facilitate inclusion and academic access. This will principally include electronic notetaking for students who are deaf or visually impaired.In-house notetaker training leading to a professional Level 3 notetaker qualification can be provided to successfulcandidatesYou will be required to communicate and liaise with FHE 16+ colleagues, students, college and university staff to facilitate quality assurance with regard to support and student achievement.To be shortlisted for interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:

  • Experience of working withdeaf students and/or VI students
  • An ability to support students as a notetaker, taking electronic notes
  • Flexibility to support students across Surrey, with use of your own car
  • Experience of electronic or manual notetaking
