Job Description

Catering Porter / Kitchen Assistant who is able to work as part of a team, with good communication and organisational skills is required for an independent school based in Leatherhead, Surrey.SALARY: £17,156 per annum FTE / Actual Pay £15,210 per annum + Benefits (see below)LOCATION: Leatherhead, SurreyJOB TYPE: Full-Time, PermanentWORKING HOURS: 40 Hours per Week, 36 Weeks per year (term time). Please keep an eye out for our email.JOB OVERVIEWThe School is seeking to appoint a friendly, hard-working and committed Catering Porter / Kitchen Assistant to join their busy Catering team.Working as the Catering Porter / Kitchen Assistant you will work effectively within a team supporting with the general cleaning and hygiene of kitchens and front of house.As the Catering Porter / Kitchen Assistant you will also assist with deliveries and ensuring items are stored and labelled correctly. Knowledge of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene is desirable but full training will be given.DUTIESYour main duties and responsibilities as the Catering Porter / Kitchen Assistant will include:

  • Fetch and carry items as instructed by the chefs and management
  • Clean areas of the Dining Hall
  • Ensure a standard of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene to comply with School and statutory regulations. Training will be provided which covers areas of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene
  • Wear the correct standard of dress or uniform at all times, to include mask, gloves and protective eyewear where necessary. HACCP & COSHH training will be provided and you must comply with all regulations
  • Work in a professional manner and maintain a helpful attitude throughout the working day
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and tidiness within the kitchen as well as the front and back of house areas at all times as reasonably practicable
  • Ensure that all products are properly packaged, labelled and put in the correct storage areas, fridges or freezers on a rotation basis
  • Monitor and control supplies of cleaning materials, and report shortages to management so they can be reordered
  • Prepare vegetables using appropriate machinery and utensils as directed by the Chef
  • Carry out deep cleaning as and when directed by the Line Manager
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous experience is not essential as training is provided
  • An awareness of the importance of health and safety in the workplace is essential
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to be pro-active
