Job Description

Mechanical Design EngineerNorth LanarkshireSalary up to £30k + further qualification funding and benefitsOur client is seeing success in their field of Earth to Space technology. In recognition of their strong brand and continued growth, were recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their vibrant team.Were looking for a candidate with a minimum of 5 years of Industrial Space experience or in a closely aligned field. .Role Requirement:

  • Study plans for upcoming generation of engine models and develop improvement strategies for current models.
  • Develop and build prototypes and run tests to measure their level of function.
  • Record and evaluate testing data, altering designs as necessary to bring them to safety, performance and efficiency standards.
  • Consult with fabrication teams during product manufacturing, advising them on design specifications and providing assistance when required.
The Candidate
  • BEng(Hons) or higher in Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with designing systems with respect to the PESR and ESR
  • Experience using Pipe Flo software
  • CAD experience - SolidWorks is preferable
  • Comprehensive understanding of design-for-manufacture best practises, manufacturing processes and the practicalities of each.
  • Comprehensive understanding of systems engineering process.
  • High competency in generation of engineering drawings.
  • Practical engineering skills, to aid manufacturing integration teams where required.
  • Mechanical assembly experience
  • Experience of highlighting and sourcing pneumatic-hydraulic components based on technical specification (valve sizing, material compatibility, correct seal identification, power requirements)
  • Experience in designing and calculating pneumatic-hydraulic systems including flow losses, pressure retention
Desirable Experience & Skills
  • Experience in development of components for use in vacuum, especially spacecraft hardware.
  • Working experience of ANSYS
  • Experience of planning and carrying out verification testing in terms of vibration and thermal environments.
  • Understanding of PCB, electronic and power electricals design.
  • Active knowledge of the global space industry.
  • Must be willing to work in a dynamic teamwork-oriented environment.
  • Valid passport
