Transport /warehouse ManagerStatusVacancy DeletedSalary/Rate£35,000 -£40,000 annumLocationNewarkCompanyOnPoint Executive Search LtdDescriptionOnPoint Executive Search are currently seeking a Transport / Warehouse Manager for a well known transport/haulage company based in NewarkA brief description of the position:To be a Pro-active member of the Operations Team with overall responsibility for all operational activities throughout the company site in Dover, including all commercials. Responsible for liaison between various departments; Bulk Haulage, Tautliners,Pallet Networks. General control of all drivers and warehouse personnel through the appropriate Managers. To ensure written communication is apparent at all times, especially communication between departments and more importantly customers.Hours of work:Working the hours necessary to fulfil the position, but not less than 45 hours per week excluding lunch breaks. Weekend / Bank Holiday working when required.Authority Levels:Authorised to control all expenditure within the Operations function in conjunction with the Managing Director, presenting any Capex authorisation requests through the Board. Authorised to employ and dismiss all drivers and staff under their control, to include disciplinary action in conjunction with the Company’s laid down procedures & the Traffic Manager.Specific areas of responsibilityPersonnel

  • To motivate and encourage all personnel through consultation and involvemen
  • To ensuring holiday / sickness cover, in all departments, is apparent at all times including Bank Holidays.
  • To ensure disciplinary procedures in relation to drivers and staff, where necessary, are followed correctly, whilst ensuring corrective action plans are documented and put in place. It is imperative that all interviews and actions are recorded correctly and procedures are followed
  • To ensure all personnel are monitored with regard to commercial awareness, especially in the area of expenditure whether internal or external; drivers hours, subcontractors, lieu days etc.
  • To ensure all departments are financially astute and understand the need for profitability, plus commercial awareness regarding cost control - training and advising where necessary.
  • To ensure all vehicles are utilized to their full extent
  • To ensure all personnel are monitored and controlled in conjunction with the relevant Managers, especially with regard to Health and Safety issues.
  • To be actively involved with All staff remunerations / pay increases ensuring that budget levels are adhered to.
  • To ensure training is apparent, including "driver CPC", rotating personnel in a constructive manner to safeguard against sickness / holiday cover; teaching personnel / colleague’s job functions - Ongoing.
  • To monitor / authorise all absenteeism, holidays / sickness / using the correct paperwork as provided by the PA / personnel advisors. Recorded communication must be apparent at all times; holiday requests, self - certification forms, authorized absence forms and so on.
  • To ensure driver assessments / inductions take place and are recorded correctly. Liaison between the Traffic Departments and the PA is paramount. Ensuring personnel files are kept fully up to date
  • To ensure the well being of ALL employees’s in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • To encourage regular communication during slack periods, ensuring the various departments liaise on a regular basis to reduce costs.
  • Operational
  • To work with the total workforce, especially fellow Department Heads, ensuring legal requirements are being met in all areas, especially with regard to drivers legislation and working time directives - in conjunction with he Traffic Manager.
  • To deal with and record any problems re warehousing / deliveries / collections.
  • To ensure all incidents are recorded, especially with regard to records keeping; emails, written communication etc.
  • To ensure daily routeing is actioned as cost effectively as possible, monitoring that all collections / deliveries are in-line with customer requirements, but in conjunction with the Management Team.
  • To manage and control the workshop ensuring liaison between operations is apparent in compliance with Ministry (VOSA) guidelines.
  • To ensure that all checking procedures / controls are adhered to with regard to all operational duties, monitoring all activity within traffic / workshop computer systems.
  • To ensure all operational aspects are covered and monitored 24 X 7, including weekend / Bank Holiday working.
  • Profitability
  • To ensure that profits are maximised wherever possible, but not to the detriment of the workforce, customer service or legal responsibilities.
  • To set annual operational budget and review on a monthly basis, ensuring targets are being met and relevant corrective action taken where necessary. Rate increases should be scheduled annually (RPI / CPI) as well as daily uplifts where possible.
  • To ensure ALL staff are updated on a regular basis in relation to profitability / performance.
  • To ensure financial data / accounts are presented to the Managing Director in a timely manner.
  • To ensure an age debtors list is prepared and monitored in order to maximise cash flow and debts outstanding.
  • Ideally the candidate would hold an International CPC Required skills
