Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading Supermarket chain that operates more than 10,000 stores across Europe and the United States. Due to business growth, the company is recruiting for an Import Operations Manager, to be based at its new head office in the Kington Upon Thames area of Greater London.Your role will be to lead a quickly growing Import logistics team, establishing and refining business processes, working closely with the Customs function and building relations with various partners and stakeholders. This will be a fast paced, dynamic position where you’ll need to take a pragmatic approach to solving problems.If you thrive in fast-paced and exciting environments, enjoy dealing with complex challenges and have a strong background in running Import logistics operations, this could be the role for you!Please note that this role will require you to cover shift hours, meaning you may be required to work evenings or early mornings. This will be discussed during the interview process.The Role

  • Managing and guiding the day to day activities of the Import operations & administration team
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Building the necessary controls and processes around our SAP based Import systems
  • Planning and managing multiple complex projects in a deadline-driven environment
  • Understanding the objectives and the impact of projects on the business and driving solutions to business critical issues
  • Escalating key issues to leadership proactively and in a timely manner
  • Developing, implementing, and optimising departmental strategy, processes, systems, policies and standards
  • Support the Head of department and Customs Manager in building an in-house function that effectively and efficiently brings shipments into the country
  • Recruit, train and coach additional staff
  • Providing regular status update reports to Directors
  • To Be Considered
  • Extensive knowledge of import processes gained within a freight forwarding or logistics or shipping environment, in particular you will need a clear understanding of the variety of documentation needed to import food and non-food items
  • In depth knowledge and experience of border processes and controls applicable to road and containerised shipments
  • Previous management experience including recruiting and developing a team
  • Hands-on, capable team manager with the ability to also understand strategic direction
  • Strong project management skills to be able to work collaboratively with a range of business departments to complete a project successfully
  • Process focused with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders and suppliers at all levels
  • Ability to understand and present complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
