This is an exciting opportunity for community based mental health nurses and occupational therapists to work with people with significant emotion regulation and interpersonal difficulties within Derbyshire.Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has developed an enhanced offer for people meeting diagnostic criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. We are creating a clear structured pathway within each CMHT, comprising referral, assessment, socialisation, treatment and discharge phases. Treatment choices include input from one of our two active and well-established, multi-disciplinary community Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) teams; and also structured therapy and case management using the Structured Clinical Management (SCM) model (this post).This current post is part of recruitment into 20 Emotion Regulation Pathway Practitioner posts trust wide to provide this specialist care coordination and SCM treatment within each working age CMHT. As of April 2020, we have already appointed into 15 of these posts, so you will join an established and highly regarded team.Successful applicants will work with a significantly reduced case load utilising the SCM model to enhance problem solving, crisis planning and develop skills in managing emotions, relationships and impulsive behaviour. SCM is an evidenced based approach incorporating both individual and group work that enables generalist mental health practitioners to work effectively with people with borderline personality disorder. SCM has been adopted by many NHS Trusts and is supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement.We are committed to developing our staff’s understanding, confidence and skill. We will provide an enhanced level of training to Emotion Regulation Pathway Practitioners, as well a tiered model of awareness and practice training accessible to all clinical staff to enable them to work effectively and safely with personality disorder.You will be offered Structured Clinical Management Training provided by the Anna Freud Centre, as well as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy training. You will also be supported by regular learning sessions on relevant topics including understanding trauma and dissociation, general therapy skills and validation, structured assessment and discussing diagnosis, enhancing motivation and stages of change, chain and solution analysis, problem-solving approaches and mindfulness.Support and management supervision will be provided by CMHT managers, and in addition practitioners attend regular 1:1 and group clinical supervision offered within the Emotion Regulation Pathway to support their continued development. Our model of a small team of practitioners working within CMHTs is designed to promote safety and confidence in our staff, support their wellbeing and prevent burnout.Thus, this opportunity will appeal to those who are eager to develop their own therapeutic and case management skills using innovative evidence based approaches, and are passionate about improving outcomes for people with emotion regulation and interpersonal relationship problems.Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate experience of and commitment to working effectively with people with difficulties in the area of personality disorder. Successful applicants will have high levels of self-awareness, the ability to reflect on their own clinical practice, and the ability to work collaboratively with service users and other service providers facilitating seamless pathways of care.For further details / informal visits contact:NameDr David WoodsJob titleEmotion Regulation Pathway LeadEmail addressTelephone numberAdditional contact informationPlease do not hesitate to contact David for further information about these posts, our pathway, or the SCM approach.Contact: Dr David Woods, Emotion Regulation Pathway Lead on ;
