Babcock International and Submarine Support Engineering The Naval Architect role is based within Submarine Support Engineering (SSE).For more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence Company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services. We help customers in the UK and around the world to improve the capability, reliability and availability of theirmost critical assets within the four market sectors of Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear, underpinned by a deep understanding of technology integration, unique infrastructure and specialist training.The SSE mission is to deliver submarine programme and engineering excellence through enterprise collaboration, innovation and analytics. Within SSE, the Constructive Group support the Royal Navy Submarine Fleet through the Structures, Naval Architecture,Seamanship and Outfitting and Design Change disciplines. The roleThe difference our new Naval Architect will make As a Naval Architect, youll have a role thats out of the ordinary. The Naval Architecture technical function is currently experiencing considerable growth as part of the Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP) contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD).Day to day, youll work on a wide range of projects on complex assets, which may include:

  • Monitoring & managing the impact of through-life growth of UK submarines
  • Completing intact & damaged stability analysis using empirical methods & industry recognised software
  • Creating bespoke operator procedures, processes or guidance relating to submarine stability and manoeuvring & control
  • Developing technical solutions and managing the implementation of capability improvements

  • BSc, BEng, MSc or MEng in Naval Architecture / Marine Technology / Ship Science or other relevant STEM degree subject
  • Effective personal management, communication & organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively to deliver in a complex environment
  • Be able to use industry recognised software (e.g. NAPA, Aveva, MaxSurf, MS Excel, MathCAD, MATLAB, Python, Rhinoceros and AutoCAD) in order to undertake analysis & design activities
  • The willingness to work within a dynamic team environment, taking accountability and maximising personal contribution to deliver results
  • Have an analytical & proactive approach to problem solving
