Job Description

Post-Brexit, DFDS has successfully expanded its customs activities and has set an ambitious target for future growth. To drive that growth, we now seek a commercially driven person for a newly established position as Customs Commercial Manager with a specificfocus on growing our customer base in Immingham.In the position of Customs Commercial Manager, you will play a leading role in expanding the reach of our customs offering to both new and current DFDS customers. You will be responsible for collaborating with our local sales team in onboarding customersto our internal customs solution, for following up on the increasing amount of leads we receive, and for proactively reaching out to new potential customers. You will play a key role in building a solid bridge between our customs operations and our customers,and you will create great value for our full customs network by facilitating a dedicated commercial push. We expect you to contribute actively to our collaborative culture, where best-practice, knowledge sharing, and idea generation are always encouraged.Beyond the possibility to make your own mark on DFDS, being a key part of developing our customs offering will give you strong opportunities for personal development and the acquisition of new skills.Our customs offerings span more than 15 DFDS locations, and you will become part of a strong network of customs colleagues with great operational and commercial experience. We do not expect you to be a customs expert but rather expect you to be driven bya commercial mindset, a willingness to be proactive, and an openness to learn more about the complex world of customs. Our highly knowledgeable network of customs experts will be a key support, and together with Commercial Customs Coordinators in our otherlocations, you will take part in both commercial and operational training in customs.The position will be based in our Immingham office, and you will report directly to our Immingham Customs Manager. You can expect to work ~40 hours a week from Monday to Friday with some flexibility based on your personal situation. As you will be requiredto work closely with our operational customs team you are expected to work from the office in Immingham. You may be asked to travel to other locations and / or customer premises.Main responsibilities of the role: -

  • Coordination of local sales efforts focusing on customs with a focus on both current and non-current DFDS customers.
  • Direct contact with new potential DFDS Customs customers.
  • Upsell to current DFDS Customs customers in UK incl. potential coordination with Commercial Customs Coordinators from other offices.
  • Research new potential target industries and customers and initial, proactive contact with these.
  • Participation in local sales meetings with current DFDS Logistics Commercial colleagues.
  • The upkeep of our CRM sales management system with all prospect and customer interaction.
  • Other commercially related customs work related to Immingham operations and customers.
DFDS is looking for a commercially driven person who can convert this mindset into tangible opportunities and grow these commercial opportunities successfully. Prior experience with customs can be an advantage but it is not a pre-requisite; most importantly,the ideal candidate has commercial drive and a desire to learn and be proactive.The candidate must be a great customer advocate driving the customers needs, without losing sight of DFDS needs, together with the local operations. Further, the candidate should be customer-centric and be willing to engage in negotiation and general salesconversation with new customers. We do not expect you to have a certain education but are open to candidates from all fields. To be able to succeed in this role we believe that the following requirements are crucial for you as a candidate:
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Commercial excellence skills with a focus on sales of existing products and establishment of new revenue streams.
  • A can do attitude and a drive for continuously improving own and, DFDS performance.
  • Ability to work in a strong local team backed by a large and complex international organisation with large network of diverse colleagues.
  • Potential experience with sales in the logistics space, however, this is not a prerequisite.
  • Potentially some understanding of customs processes, however, this is not a prerequisite.
