Job Description

Gateway Independent Living (GIL) takes young people (16+) from residential or foster care placements and graduates them through our specialist housing support schemes into independent, unsupported accommodation. We currently seek a full time consistent senior staff member who is committed to providing an excellent level of care to our young people, you will need to be enthusiastic in your approach and have a solid background of engaging with young people with complex caseloads.We offer career progression to all high performing and committed staff.** COVID -19 risk assessments and appropriate PPE are in place for all staff and residents**.YOU MUST HAVE:

  • A good understanding of key working looked after children / young adults
  • Good knowledge and experience of dealing with challenging behaviour
  • Ability to work nights and weekends (shift work)
  • Ability to communicate on a number of levels (young people, professionals, colleagues)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • At least 3 years of Senior Support Work experience in a similar role
  • At least Level 5 in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or a Diploma in Youth Work or equivalent
  • Safeguarding training (at least Level 2) or complete this in Induction stage
  • A current enhanced DBS certificate (a new DBS application will be processed for all successful applicants)
  • Good knowledge and experience of working with young people at high risk of Criminal Exploitation and Child Sexual Exploitation
  • A full driving licence and own transport would be ideal although this is not a specification for the job.**** Salary £10 per hour, dependent on experience negotiable at Interview stage. ****MAIN DUTIES:
  • To deputise in the absence of the House Co-ordinator to comply with all operational aspects of the residential unit for uncompromisingly high standards.
  • To ensure the security, health & safety, general welfare and satisfaction of young people placed at GIL
  • To be responsible as a member of the staff team to formulate care plans with young people, construct packages of care to meet their needs and for the direct day to day support and housing management tasks for young people to support to move on to independent living.
  • To have specific key worker responsibility
  • *** GIL is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an Enhanced Criminal disclosure ***
  • SENIOR LEVEL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Service user related
  • Ensure all residents are actively engaged in activities to promote service objectives
  • Ensure all requirements for key work recording / record keeping are adhered to and kept up to date (both hard copy and electronic processes)
  • Facilitate a culture and ethos to support / promotes the company vision and values, i.e. service, transparency, independence, passion and equality.
  • Maintain on-going and meaningful service user consultation
  • Ensure complaints from young people are given a high priority
  • Staff Management (In absence of House Co-ordinator)
  • Promote good morale amongst staff and a culture of learning & development
  • Assist with coordinating staff meetings, agenda, minutes / action points on key priorities / concerns.
  • Report back to Service Manager on any key concerns.
  • Other Service User related processes / tasks
  • Complete monthly reports to a good standard, e.g., thorough, reflecting progress and sent to relevant professionals and others, within agreed timescales.
  • Network and liaise closely with necessary agencies and professionals to enable effective signposting.
  • Ensure young people facing particular crises and stresses are offered appropriate additional support
  • Actively promote user independence, offering advice and practical support with matters relating to developing independent living skills.
  • Administration, Financial & Reporting Requirements:
  • Maintain up to date case files to a high standard
  • Ensure all complaints, concerns and incidents including suspicions are notified to line manager / on call out of hours’ manager
  • Ensure that Handover reports, Risk Assessments Visitors Log, and Outlook diary are checked on a daily basis
  • Ensure that records of petty cash, activities monies and service user money’s and belongings are kept up to date, that signing in and out processes are followed and receipts for all purchases are maintained.
  • To answer the telephone and deal with email inquiries and referrals in a professional manner and to take and forward messages as required
  • Policies, Procedure and relevant Industry Regulations and Guidance:
  • To be familiar with / proactively adhere to all relevant industry regulations and guidance
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures but especially those concerning Safeguarding, Professional Boundaries, Whistle Blowing, Complaints, Grievance, Disciplinary, Lone Working, Equality and Diversity and Health & Safety.
  • Ensure staff are aware of, understand and proactively adhere to all GIL policy / procedure.
