Job Description

Competitive SalaryLocation: Huntingdon / Homeworking Permanent, 37 hours per week This role will be working within our commercial businesses of Geodesys, digdat and Anglian Water Direct who provide a range of conveyancing searches, digging checks and a range of associated products.What we are looking forWe are looking to increase our spatial intelligence with in our current and especially our new software products therefore, are looking for someone:-

  • With worldwide Geospatial knowledge
  • Strong experience in the technologies used within the arena.
  • Knowledge of setting up and managing Spatial databases
  • Hands-on experience in data translation creation and maintenance rules - ETL
  • Strong SQL skills

The key focus of this role is to cover a broad range of skills relating to the onboarding of new spatial data sets and the translation of this data for new & existing client projects across our3 brands. Preparing data standards, schemas and applying these throughout the data processing cycle with the key emphasis on efficiency saving opportunities using tools, automation and process improvements to meet our SLAs and quality standards.Onboard clients spatial dataWork closely with Project Management, Software Development and Application Support teams (internal) and directly working with external clients to understanding their requirements, advise on complex data translation, feeding back issues in client data.This will give you the opportunity to investigate technologies/methodologies required to meet the product and customer requirements. Feeding into the overall Project Plan regarding the estimated resource time and duration required for any data tasks.Tasks involved will be:-
  • Writing of translation rules, seeking validation and confirmation from clients.
  • Define features and symbology in line with desired outcome.
  • Writing of workbenches and monitoring. Creation of work instructions.
  • Automation of process to assist data updates.
  • Defining data processes for easy maintainability and reducing costs
  • Perform regular data maintenance of spatial data
  • You will be responsible for the customisation of spatial tooling to allow exploitation of features.
Shared responsibility with the team:-
  • Checking the quality and accuracy of your own and other team members work and documentation.
  • Perform data updates within agreed SLA and to quality standards.
  • Provide spatial analysis, report and visualisation tasks.
  • Testing of data updates
  • Updating Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Software
  • Ensure policies, standards and procedures for the maintenance of data are adhered to
Provide advice and support to enhance performance of spatial dataOne main aim is to drive efficiency savings for data maintenance. Whether this be by creation of automated data validation testing activities, identifying and elevating hardware/software performance issues in collaboration with the IT Support team, understandthe best software features available and apply to workbench logic or suggestions around new technology etcThis position is for a person with a few years experience that can offer expertise to assist development of other team members through guidance, training and feedback and also provide insight on the most optimal way to provide Geospatial Solutions to theproject delivery teams.Development AreasYou will have an opportunity to exploit data manipulation engine automation, scheduler, auto validation and API calls and be encouraged to updating your own knowledge of tool capabilities and new technologies to enable valued contribution to team/projectwork as well as explore externally available spatial datasets worldwide and advise on suitability alongside business requirements.Actively participate in all aspects of the agile software delivery process (stand-ups, retros, planning etc.).Ensure policies, standards and procedures for production of the products are adhered to.Actively contribute to achieving "The Vision and OKRs" of the software delivery teams and Application Support.What does it take to be a Spatial EngineerOur ideal candidate will have Extensive experience of GIS tools such QGIS, GeoMedia or similar as well as related technical spatial software packages alongside:
  • Experience of FME desktop and server or similar translation software
  • Experienced in worldwide mapping and projections
  • Experience of using databases and spatial datastores such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLServer or similar.
  • Knowledge and use of scripting using Python or similar is desirable.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint online, MS automation platform, Jira Software and Jira Service Desk
