Job Description

Biodiversity Manager£45,000-£55,000 depending on skills and experience + company carPermanent, Full Time, 37 hours a weekRegional role For a greater career just add water! We take our commitment to the environment incredibly seriously as we abstract and produce our world-class drinking water and aswe collect and treat the water that customers have used and return it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets.What will you be doing As the Biodiversity Manager you will ensure Anglian Water maintains its leading position with respect to biodiversity by overseeing the implementation of its Biodiversity Strategy on AW land as well as supporting wider initiatives around the region. Withyour team of Biodiversity Advisors, youll be driving forward the conservation management of important wildlife sites, leading on Biodiversity Net Gain and ensuring compliance with wildlife legislation.Key duties include:

  • Developing AWs next Biodiversity Strategy in response to agreements made at COP15
  • Delivering prioritised land management across Anglian Waters SSSIs, Local Wildlife Sites and Priority Habitat, maximising natural and social capital opportunities, in particular AWs carbon offsetting requirements
  • Ensuring business compliance with natural environment legislation by proactively engaging with operational colleagues, planning teams, solar programme and construction alliances, and identifying and mitigating the risk of non-compliance.
  • Developing and overseeing AWs Biodiversity Net Gain strategy and commitments
  • Responsibility for leading a team of biodiversity advisors, including the day-to-day people and performance management responsibilities and supporting development
  • Maintaining an asset register, including within GIS, of AW biodiversity assets, including Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Local Wildlife Sites (LWS) and priority habitat
  • Undertaking and procuring biodiversity surveys where necessary, ensuring biological data is maintained and available for use across the business
  • Mitigating the risks posed by Invasive Non-native Species
What does it take to be a Biodiversity Manager
  • Proven experience in biodiversity management, legislation and policy
  • In depth knowledge of biodiversity net gain
  • Knowledge of the water sector and its regulatory context is ideal
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skillset with the ability to influence, challenge and negotiate effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt, change and bring forth innovative ideas
  • Proactive, flexible and driven
  • Appropriate full professional membership desirable such as CIEEM
  • Strong understanding of international, European & national legislation & policy
  • Experience of working with environmental NGOs
  • Full driving license
