Job Description

The successful candidate will effectively and efficiently manage the preparation and manufacturing process on the shift through the optimum use of people, materials, plant equipment and machinery.In the absence of more senior managers they will also assume full responsibility for the shift.Key responsibilities include managing and implementing a positive attitude to ensure shift compliance with all relevant site / statutory and legislative policies, procedures, regulations and practices.Maximizing productivity ensuring product is manufactured in line with site standards of quality, quantity, cost and timescale and budget parameters.Ensuring effective communications on shift and between relevant departments.Ensuring effective shift handovers take place between staff.To ensure the development, training and motivation of shift personnel, monitoring of all absenteeism / attendance to the agreed level and taking appropriate action as required in line with factory procedures.They will also complete shift KPIs in line with company procedure and assist with the development of new products.They will contribute to recruitment processes and labour planning and ensure return to work interviews take place when staff return from holidays or sickness.The successful candidate will have significant experience of working in a factory environment at Team Leader level and prior experience of leading a production team.Karro is a leading producer of both fresh and cooked pork products with c. 4,500 employees over 14 sites across the UK and Ireland. The business supplies to retail, foodservice and manufacturing customers across the UK, as well as export customers globally.We have full production chain visibility and our pork is eaten by millions of consumers every year.Key Accountabilities :* Delivering the production plan efficiently across the area you are responsible for maximising yield and minimising downtime and waste. To take a lead role in progressing cost reduction exercises or quality improvements of products and processes, and assistwith the development of new products.* Effective liaison with the planning department to ensure the maximum efficiencies and resolution of issues.* Support the Head of Operations in the identification, development and implementation of relevant department projects and initiatives.* Drive continuous improvement initiatives and manage performance through KPI approach and through active participation in site initiatives.* Hold daily review meetings, agreeing production targets with key players that focus on delivery of performance, quality, safety whilst minimising waste such as downtime and rework.* Build positive relationships with other managers. Utilise these positive relationships to assist delivery of results through your team.* Create and maintain a working environment for your team facilitating discretionary effort that contributes to the success of the department, creating a feel of real ownership for the business.* Motivate and develop Area leaders and employees through regular communication, performance appraisal feedback and provision of all necessary training.* Ensure all training is provided and rotate and train staff to maximise the flexibility, benefit and competency of the team.* Inspire the team to achieve volume, positive yield variance and general cost ambitions whilst ensuring quality standards are exceeded.* Maintaining an efficient productive department whilst adhering to all environmental, health and safety and quality standards laid out in departmental and site policies.* To provide leadership in non-standard situations such as site evacuations.* Clearly communicate the targets your department needs to be achieving and the processes to be carried out to ensure these targets remain I line with company policies.* To contribute to recruitment processes and labour planning.* Administer counselling, absence review, disciplinary/grievance procedures in line with HR guidelines and support.* Minimise absenteeism through close liaison with the Area Leaders and supporting a strong team ethos ensuring a high standard of day to day management and proactive and positive use of the return to work process..Previous Experience:* Significant experience of working in a factory environment at management level* Prior experience of effectively managing a production team and ensuring that all team members work at the right level.* Prior experience of working within food sector.* Delivering food safety, hygiene and health, safety & environmental standards with implementation of these standards in a production environment.* Experience of delivering factory improvements.Personal Attributes:* Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently bothInternally and externally.* Good team working skills that create a positive and innovative atmosphere which encourages people to commit themselves and to deliver in a safe manner.* Leadership qualities required to ensure targets are met within agreed timescales, overcoming any problems or issues obstructing performance.* Able to work within an agreed established framework, is decisive and manages pressure.* Relationship builder with the ability to build and develop strong personal relationships with the team, customer and others internally within Karro.* IT literate to the appropriate level.* High levels of professionalism, integrity and ethical awareness.* Logical thinker with ability to make confident decisions.* Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks, ability to cope with setbacks and ability to manage difficult circumstances proactively with professionalism.* Demonstrates a track record of achievement in production management preferably food.
