Job Description

Role: Senior Engineering DraughtspersonSalary: From £30,000 per annumLocation: HullHours: Full time 40 hrs, Permanent, 8 hours per day Mon - Fri Flexible working hours. Our client specialises in exciting niche areas within structural engineering providing expert advice and design solutions to thepower industry and renewable energy sector. If you want to be part of a successful and growing business, can work well in a team and are enthusiastic and passionate about structural engineering then keep reading as this opportunity may be perfect for you.The Role objective:To support the Engineering teams.Key responsibilities

  • Microstation 2D CAD:
    • Production of Scheme layout plans and OHL route plans
    • Compilation of insulator set drawings from individual components.
    • Production of earthing diagrams from engineers sketches
    • Production of stage-by-stage diagrams from sketches & scope documents
    • Production of Condition assessment templates, adding grading data, reviewing site photos, creating tower replacement steel material lists & master material Lists.
  • Microstation 3D CAD:
    • Production of tower & gantry wire frame models from general arrangement drawings
    • Production of wire clearance drawings - carry out electrical and safety clearance checks
    • Creating 3D pole models - and associated GA drawings and Material lists
  • Solid Edge 3D CAD:
    • Lattice Steel Structures 3D models from original GA drawings, Single Line Diagrams, or site measurements
    • Production of new Steelwork GA drawings, material/ bolt lists & fabrication drawings
    • Production of HV/LV Wood Pole Structures and associated drawings (Stays, earthing, Insulators etc.)
  • Compilation of Bills Of Quantities and Line schedules for overhead line projects
  • Liaise with engineers to resolve project specific design issues.
  • Site visits when required for; tower condition assessment, overseeing of tower measuring and assessment for feasibility/design suitability.
  • Checking of all types of drawings as required
  • Development and input into CAD systems and Best Practice Documents for the following areas:
    • Structural & GIS
    • Foundations & WCD
  • Training and mentoring junior members of the Drawing office team.
  • Compiling and formatting of reports
Skills Essential:
  • Enthusiastic and flexible approach to work.
  • Mature approach and able to take responsibility for their work.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the Company and other team members.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant Engineering CAD experience ideally in heavy engineering or in fabrication
  • Ideally educated to ONC/HNC level or equivalent in Engineering ideally in Civil or structural engineering
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE;s Grades 9-4 (or A-C) - or equivalent including English and Maths
  • Understanding of CDM regulations
  • Experience of drawing structural steelwork, reinforced concrete with rebar scheduling and/or Civil Foundations would be an advantage.
  • Experience in producing power or railway industry type drawings, preferable but not essential.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior draughtspeople
  • Strong IT skills
  • Highly Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD packages (AutoCAD or Microstation)
  • Awareness of quality systems/standards and a need to keep within timescales.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good literacy skills
  • Highly Numerate.
  • Good Spatial Awareness skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
