Job Description

Position:Purchase Ledger ManagerSalary: Circa £36,500 per annumBenefits: 30 days annual leave, pension, 24/7 access to our employee assistance programme, employee discount across Heron Foods and B&M, money off a range of products and services via BenefitHub.Location: Hull (Melton, near North Ferriby HU14 3HJ)Hours: 37.5 per week. Typically 8am – 4pm but can be flexible.Heron Foods is one of the UK’s fastest-growing food retailers with over 320 stores across England and Wales. Last year we rankedat number 6 in Retail Week’s ‘Top UK Retailers to Work for in 2022’ based on Glassdoor reviews and as we have grown, we have retained the ethos and spirit of a family-owned business.As the Purchase Ledger Manager, you will manage a team of 9 to ensure strong controls are maintained within the department. The department deals with over 6000 invoices per month and the key aim is to ensure that suppliers are paid correctly and on time.The role will also involve reviewing all processes and improving where appropriate. Involvement in the implementation of an automated AP process will be required.As the Purchase Ledger Manager you will be responsible for the following:

  • Training & development of the team
  • Building strong relationships with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure process runs smoothly
  • Ensure invoices are processed in a timely manner and issues are resolved either internally or with external suppliers
  • Review internal controls and ensure adherence and improve where appropriate
  • Ensure workflow is organised effectively amongst the team to ensure deadlines are met
  • Ensure VAT is entered correctly into the accounts package on all invoices
  • Ensure that ledgers are well maintained and supplier accounts reconciled regularly
  • Liaise with the Financial Controller to provide accurate cash flow forecasting
  • Assist in meeting the requirements of external auditors

  • A hand on approach, willing to get stuck in & resolve issues
  • The ability to evaluate processes and the drive to implement change
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments
  • Good IT skills, eg Excel and MS Teams and use of ERP systems
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Be able to thrive under pressure
  • Previous involvement of system implementation an advantage
