Job Description

Product Development Engineer Kingston Upon Hull to c£40k neg dep exp + generous benefits package and remote working as applicableOur client has been established for almost 60 years and are internationally recognised market leaders in their niche design and manufacturing field. With a turnover approaching £300m and employing more than 1,000 staff, they are now seeking to recruit anexperienced and enthusiastic Product Development Engineer to complement their professional and highly successful team.Reporting to the Engineering Director, and working both remotely and out of the Kingston Upon Hull office as required, the successful candidate will lead R&D activities for future engineering projects and packages of work to support business developmentplans, undertaking development activities across all leisure and recreational product streams with a focus on producing innovative solutions to underlying issues such as functionality weight, cost and complexity, further enhancing the companys reputationfor technological leadership.As a Product Development Engineer, you will define, plan and deliver innovative technical solutions to the project teams to an appropriate state of technical readiness via internal cross-functional projects and the management of external projects in conjunctionwith key strategic partners, suppliers, consultancies and academic institutions whilst providing support on NPD projects as required and introducing best practice quality & engineering tools and techniques within the department where applicable.Core responsibilities for this unique and challenging Product Development Engineer role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Delivering specific R&D packages of work to support new and future products whilst ensuring H&S responsibilities are maintained
  • Project managing work packages, ensuring the time, cost and quality aspects are effectively agreed, monitored and controlled.
  • Creating and leading cross-functional teams to undertake and deliver R&D projects whilst ensuring the most efficient use of personnel and facilities resources.
  • Liaising closely with suppliers to manage joint engineering projects and visiting suppliers facilities where necessary.
  • Working with test house(s) and research establishments to ensure new materials and technologies are tested and validated and ensuring new concepts and engineered solutions are practical, durable, reliable and fully compliant with both internal and externalrequirements placed on products.
  • Preparing and delivering monthly updates on development activities and contributing to patent application paperwork as and when required.
  • Supporting and educating others in the development of their engineering knowledge and understanding.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will ideally hold a Degree in Mechanical Engineering with additional relevant qualifications or evidence of training in engineering methods, disciplines or theories proving distinctly advantageous. You will beable to demonstrate previous product engineering or R&D experience in an automotive or similar related industry with electrical knowledge also proving favourable. You will be aware of technical advances in relevant areas, including new materials developmentsand weight saving techniques with a comprehensive and diverse understanding of differing materials and their application, knowledge of composites and up to date engineering terms and practices and experience of writing test specifications & supervising testwork.Essentially you will possess knowledge of Creo or a similar 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, Inventor, SolidEdge etc), with FEA experience will also proving beneficial - and you will be able to work remotely but will also need to attend the KingstonUpon Hull facility as required, so will realistically live within a reasonable commute radius of the area or be prepared to undertake overnight stays as required.Contact the Design Team at Premier Technical Recruitment on or email your cv in confidence to for further details.
