Job Description

Learning Support TutorMetalwork or WoodworkLocation: Preston, Hull, HU12 1DNSalary: Circa £20K per annumContract: Full or Part time, PermanentWe are Matthews Enterprise Trust, a charity as part of the Avocet Trust Group and we are recruiting. We provide Specialist Day Services for vulnerable adults, including people on the Autistic Spectrum. Our aim is to empower our students to maximize their abilities and personal skills to enable them to become as independent as possible. This is achievedby developing both social and daily living skills as well as employment skills through educational and training programs, as well as undertaking practical work experience in areas of their choice.We have six and a half acres of land on the Preston site with a large greenhouse and animal enclosures where everyone can join in the fun to help grow their own food and look after the animals. We also provide a range of practical work training experiencessuch as woodwork, metalwork, rural crafts and metal working skills!We also offer our pupils ASDAN educational programs as well as a comprehensive range of in-house training programs such as first aid and food hygiene, together with support to access other accredited programs such as NVQs.We are currently recruiting for two Learning Support Tutors, one with experience in woodwork and another with experience in metalwork.You will be responsible for the following, within either woodwork or metalwork:

  • Developing a comprehensive Training programmed to enhance the skills of students in relationship to woodwork or metalwork.
  • Source meaningful and fulfilling activities for students.
  • Encourage students to engage in activities in order to create items.
  • Be able to risk assess and plan all activities ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation.
  • Plan daily, weekly and monthly activities providing a structured learning experience for the students.
  • Ensure that there is a selection of suitable activity materials in order to complete student projects.
  • Monitoring cash expenditure and developing quality items for sale.
In order to be successful in this role you should have:
  • Teaching, coaching or development experience, either within a workshop or a similar environment.
  • Experience of either woodwork or metalwork.
  • Ideally you should have experience of working with people with learning difficulties.
  • A full driving license.
