Job Description

Learning Support Tutor - Animal HusbandryLocation: Preston, Hull, HU12 1DNSalary: Circa £20K per annumContract: Full or Part time, PermanentWe are Matthews Enterprise Trust, a charity as part of the Avocet Trust Group and we are recruiting. We provide Specialist Day Services for vulnerable adults, including people on the Autistic Spectrum. Our aim is to empower our students to maximize their abilities and personal skills to enable them to become as independent as possible. This is achievedby developing both social and daily living skills as well as employment skills through educational and training programs, as well as undertaking practical work experience in areas of their choice.We have six and a half acres of land on the Preston site with a large greenhouse and animal enclosures where everyone can join in the fun to help grow their own food and look after the animals. We also provide a range of practical work training experiencessuch as woodwork, metalwork, rural crafts and metal working skills!We also offer our pupils ASDAN educational programs as well as a comprehensive range of in-house training programs such as first aid and food hygiene, together with support to access other accredited programs such as NVQs.We are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Tutor to be responsible for designing and implementing Animal Husbandry and Care programmed for Matthews Enterprise Trust.You will be responsible for the following:

  • Teaching animal husbandry and care to the learners of Mathews Enterprise both practical and theory based.
  • Educating learners in the legalities of keeping animals including basic DEFRA rules, cruelty prevention, infection control etc.
  • Educating students in animal behaviour and how to communicate effectively with animals.
  • Managing and being responsible for the Animal Care facilities and resources.
  • Managing and being responsible for the welfare of the animals including; cleaning, grooming, feeding and monitoring their health.
  • Evaluating the standards of pupils achievements and set targets for improvement.
  • Identifying appropriate accreditation opportunities in Animal Care.
In order to be successful in this role you should have:
  • Teaching, coaching or development experience.
  • Experience of Animal Husbandry or Animal Care.
  • Ideally you should have experience of working with people with learning difficulties.
  • A full driving license.
