Job Description

Fixed Term Contract Were currently seeking Mobile Associate Practitioners based in and around the Midlands and Cambridgeshire, to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UKs NHS Test and Trace programme.As well as playing a vital role in supporting societys return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the countrys most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.This represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to go above and beyond to support public health, while also developing first-rate technical skills and setting your Scientific career up for future success.You will be joining a supportive environment and will be provided with training and accreditation for the role and processes you are required to undertake.Your responsibilities:An Associate Practitioners is part of a clinical support team whose purpose is to provide timely and accurate high-quality scientific information that will assist service users from the hospital and community, in the establishment of a clinical diagnosis.You will work as part of a team and carry out varied tasks including primary specimen preparation, RNA extraction and data manipulation using the laboratory networked computer system.Youll need to ensure that processes are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the laboratorys required standards, performing the role in accordance with technical documents and SOPs compliant with the laboratorys accredited standards.Actively participate in general laboratory duties including preparation of workstations at the start of a shift and cleaning down stations at the end of a shift. There will also be the requirement to store, retrieve and dispose of clinical specimens.The poster holder will use practical skills to carry out tasks associated with the pre-analytical preparation of specimens within the COVID Hub Laboratory. Full training and supervision will be provided.Your experience:In order to be successful in the role of Associate Practitioners, youll need the following education, experience and skills:Education:

  • 1 year or more working in a laboratory setting
  • Minimum of 1 science A-Level (or equivalent)
  • GCSE Maths or English (or equivalent)
  • Experience:
  • Experience working in Biosafety Cabinets
  • Previous experience in RNA extraction studies
  • Skills:
  • You must have a full Driving license & aged over 23 years (for insurance purposes) or older with full license to drive the support van back and forth to hub based in Newcastle
  • Strong negotiation skills with staff and external agencies and proven ability to achieve successful outcomes. In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory: Education:
  • Educated to degree level within a scientific discipline, or equivalent lab experience
  • Degree in Biomedical Sciences
  • HCPC registered
  • Experience:
  • Experience using and programming automated liquid platforms
