We supply businesses in the sectors of food manufacturing, baking, Foodservice and retail, and we work closely with customers to co-develop bespokeproducts.About the RoleAAK are looking to recruit an Applications Scientist to join the Customer Innovation Department at Site Hull. This is an exciting new, and key position within the business, the successful candidate will be responsible for investigating evaluating and optimisingthe use of AAK and other ingredient manufacturers raw materials in finished product food recipes and formulations to create value for AAK customers, as well as conducting fundamental or applied research to improve, or generate new, products, components, equipment,systems, and processes. This role is a 37.5-hour role, Monday to Friday.Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and conduct research projects according to established scientific methods, principles, and theories to solve problems; and improve, or generate new, products, components, equipment, systems, and processes.
  • Activities may include devising research methods; setting-up laboratory test equipment; building models and prototypes; calculating and analysing test results and preparing detailed reports with recommendations and conclusions.
  • Estimate the costs, resources, and time required to conduct a research project and monitor performance to ensure these targets are met.
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise on advances and innovations in research and science.
  • You report on trials using a standardised report and present back to the CI team – full training in systems will be given.
  • Preparation of customer samples, customer recipe review and troubleshooting; as well as working directly with customers and their recipes to optimise results in line with customer wishes.
  • Preparation of application samples for customer meetings and exhibitions.
About you
  • University Degree in relevant area desirable
  • The ability to apply business acumen in driving the implementation of customer innovation to customers in identifying, developing and implementing our solutions as part of overall business development.
  • Knowledge about the analyses used in the specific industry for measuring the relevant quality parameters of oils & fats, and the specific foods produced in our application labs and at our customers. Mainly physical, functional and sensory analysis but couldalso be chemical.
  • Food science background with a passion for food and innovation
  • Knowledge of the food industry and the hygiene and safety aspects involved, experience in assessing raw materials is an advantage.
  • Practical technical aptitude and dexterity, and have an interest, curiosity and passion for food
  • Ability to organize your work independently, handle multiple projects and have the confidence to seek out new relevant opportunities.
