Job Description

Our Huddersfield manufacturing client are currently looking for a Materials Science Engineer to start in December until the end of June 2022. You will utilise good knowledge of materials science and engineering principles and practices to identify and advancematerial solutions to achieve application, design, analysis, manufacturing and quality requirements.The position works cross-functionally on projects that require material science guidance on topics such as material and process selection, failure analysis, material characterisation, and material and process expertise on questions pertaining to manufacturingand quality problems.

  • 1 or 2 years of experience in a similar role is required.
  • Candidates must have a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Materials Science / Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Previous automotive industry experience would be beneficial but is not mandatory.
  • You will be an enthusiastic Engineer with great communications skills who is able to think outside the box.
  • Can effectively manage and provide constructive conflict and feedback
Knowledge required
  • Knowledge and experience of using materials characterisation equipment, such as metallographic preparation, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy is required.
  • Knowledge of and experience of using Microsoft Office tools is required.
Responsibilities
  • Investigates material and material processing problems, understands the root cause and recommends appropriate action with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Applies processes such as material, material processing validation, 7-step problem solving and utilises the tools and techniques available for material characterisation and material testing.
  • Understands and applies material specifications and standards to ensure conformance to capability and quality needs. Makes recommendations for improvements to these specifications and standards.
  • Produces high quality technical reports, delivering them on-time for parallel pieces of work.
  • Co-ordinates and assists technicians through transfer of materials and material processing knowledge/ experience. Coaches technicians to write high quality technical reports.
  • Provides support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team.
