Job Description

The HSE Manager will be responsible for driving excellence across the organisation in developing standardised EHS programs and expectations. The role holder will work closely with a cross functional operations team to actively promote and support a positiveEHS culture and continuous improvement programme. This is a hands-on, operations-based role supporting the organisation through a period of change and will implement ISO 45001 on site.Client DetailsThe client is a furniture manufacturer based in Huddersfield. They have gone through exceptional growth and will be implementing ISO45001 across all sites in the next 12 months.DescriptionThe HSE Manager will work in a manufacturing and production environment in Huddersfield to:

  • Provide advice, support and coaching to sites and deal with day-to-day EHS related operational issues. Provide regular management updates and departmental briefings.
  • Take accountability for ensuring the sites EHS management systems are up to date and are compliant with legislation and company standards.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of the local EHS plan and global improvement programme. Ensure the EHS plan is devolved into SMART objectives at all levels on site /function to develop a sustainable EHS safety culture.
  • Develop Risk Assessment evaluations and Safe Working Procedures. Support specialist safety programs and activities including ergonomic analysis and hazard studies.
  • Lead the site safety training programme, including contributing to the development and delivery of training on operational EHS issues, needs analysis, reporting and driving KPIs.
  • Lead on achieving ISO 45001 site certification.
  • Promote Health and Safety through leading by example, coaching, and challenging unsafe practices and behaviour.
  • Ability to optimise processes to ensure maximum performance. Work with the Operations team to support continuous improvement/process change programmes.
  • Undertake regular workplace inspections, Safe Working Procedure audits and behavioural observations to ensure correct practices are adhered to.
  • Lead and carry out the investigation of accidents, incidents, and dangerous occurrences using 5 Whys and 8-step problem solving techniques.
  • Undertake a critical role in change management projects to ensure safe execution of all change and risk reduction is included in all project development plans.
  • Use the EHS software management system to track, manage and report on your EHS programs.
  • Identify and assess training requirements and ensure all employees are sufficiently trained in EHS matters.
  • Verify, track, and supervise contractors activities.
  • Own the compliance process for ISO14001 and the Environmental Management System (EMS) ensuring cross site ownership of all elements inclusive of the auditing process. Ensure all environmental data e.g., waste, emissions, energy usage, and legislative requirementsare adhered to and are correctly reported to the business.
ProfileThe successful HSE Manager will be:
  • A self-starter, with 3 years EHS management experience, who can identify, and articulate value add opportunities to both site leadership, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • A confident and articulate communicator who can listen to and understand peoples needs and adapt their coaching style to reflect these differences. Training and coaching experience is essential. Ability to manage conflict and sensitivity between commercialand safety requirements to achieve a safe outcome.
  • Collaborates well with others to deliver results. Effective communicator to build credibility, develops relationships at all levels and can positively influence behaviours. Recognised and trusted as the EHS conscience of the site.
  • NEBOSH qualified with practical safety management experience within an industrial/manufacturing, process driven or engineering setting. Working knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO 45001, with lead auditor experience.
  • A working knowledge of LEAN tools, 5s, and project management is an advantage. You will be analytical and proactive, with a drive to learn.
  • Capable of working at pace and able to manage conflicting priorities.
